Windows Font Problem

I'm having a problem with the windows XP Professional font sizes. They appear
to be either bold or too big in some application windows and error screens.
This results in the phrase written on a window to be cut off at the right
edge because the font pushes the text out larger than the visible window.

here is a screen shot of my arial font on a computer having the problem (the
right one) and a computer without the problem (the left one):
