Very carefully follow the instructions provided by the motherboard's
manufacturer. But what makes you think a BIOS update will fix the
problem? Is there a BIOS update available that specifically addresses
the exact problem you're having? If not, there's not much to be gained
from updating the BIOS.

That depends entirely upon whether or not the motherboard manufacturer
provides the capability within its BIOS Flash utility.

If the capability has been provided by the BIOS Flash utility, restore
the earlier BIOS. Otherwise, replace the motherboard.

Go to the manufacturers web site and look for instructions. If things go
wrong the motherboard is useless until you get a new BIOS chip. I have
updated hundreds of motherboard BIOS chips. It is rare but I have seen the
process fail and render the motherboard useless. It is a last resort option.
Make sure you know where to get a new BIOS chip before starting. You can
usually backup the old BIOS. It depends on the software supplied by the
manufacturer. However if the motherboard won't start up because of a bad
flash how would you install the backup?

Flash a bios only when necessary, information can be found in the link below
