I Need some advice here please.
I've been getting 'Terminate' screen crashes in a mail/news client
called Turnpike. In my efforts to isolate these crashes (which
apparently involve Explorer, which also sometimes crashes, with MS
Visual basic C++ Runtime Library - Explorer.exe) I've been running a
very minimal XPHome with only Turnpike, Speedtouch ADSL & K9 running.
This evening I had the above Explorer crash, but it also came up with a
window talking about Data Execution Prevention. On checking this in Help
& Support and finding the settings, I have added Turnpike.exe and
Turnctl.exe (which fires up Turnpike Explorer, which is an 'extension'
of Explorer.exe). As I read H&S, it seems to protect memory locations
from being used. OK, that's very simplistic, but I'm interested in this
as when ever my system takes a 'Terminate' error it always gives the
same data and location every time. In my mind it is as though data is
trying to write to a location which is already occupied by data from
another program.
Is it safe to include Explorer.exe in this list of programs and should
I DEP for all programs and services _except_ those I've listed. Or have
I misunderstood the settings?
Thanks
