Suggest ya upgrade you cpu first, dual processor for games don't really work that well but for applications like 3d software they are good.

I have dual p3 1 gig processor system with full ram 3x 512 and have had no problems with games.. It runs them very good. Compared to most other systems i have tryed to use, i find this system the most stable.. And donlt want to give it up/
Edited by Greywolf55 on 06/15/04 09:27 PM.

hmm well if ya want to get an x800 it won't last ya very long. Its much faster then the 9800 but in about 6 months to year you will have to upgrade.

thats true and with that, i will have a really good video card, and wonlt need to buy a new one whne i upgrade. I know the 9800 pro is the best bang four buck. But if i can get the x800 pro for less the 500. I have it made..

bidding is normally reserved for idiots. Hello, the X800 Pro is going for what, $365 at online venders?

Anyway, the 9800 Pro is around $200 at online venders, so it's up to you how much you spend.

Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)

Heh, I used to see people by old PIII 1000E Slot 1 CPU's from Compgeeks for $100 and sell them on eBay for $220, I figured you were talking U.S. prices!

Simply DON'T GO for X800 Pro. My reason is this:

Only current TOP CPUs take advantage of X800 Pro over 9800XT

And 9800XT is marginally faster than 9800Pro. Your dual P3 won't take advantage, don't waste your money.

Hope this helps!

Another observation: some games benefit A LOT more from better CPUs than GPUs. Look at VGA Charts II Part II. Some games like Dungeon Siege or UT2003 don't benefit at all from better GPUs with older CPUs.

Note: also dual core usually does not help in games.

Your second CPU isn't doing squat for your games, and if you want to play newer titles I can *PROMISE* you it will not cut the mustard.

Buy a good card for that rig and you'll be wasting your money... the CPU is probably cappping your framerates already and you won't see a difference.

Get an A64 rig if you want to see performance. The 3200+ is probably quite a bit faster in professional 3d apps than your dual 1gz, to boot.

The reason why i was asking id beciase i seen one going on ebay for a good price. But what i;m really looking at is a 9800 pro with 256 ram.. there about 400 canadian with tax..And i was thinking of buying a better card now so when i do upgrade later, i won't have to buy a new graphics card..And the other thing is finding someone that is interested in buying a dual p3 with maxed ram..

Get a 9800 PRO, then.

When you upgrade, you'll be limited to motherboards with both an AGP/PCI-express graphics slot, but there should be a fair amount of boards with that feature hopefully...
