XP Boot Screen

I changed my xp boot screen with one downloaded from themexp.org, I followed <A HREF="http://www.themexp.org/howto.php" target="_new">the directions</A> step by step and and on the last reboot I was happy to see that it worked but then instead of saying welcome and then seeing my desktop, It went black. I have tried booting in safe mode and by choosing the option to start in 'last known good config.' but they both produced the same result. Do I have to reinstall windows, or is there another way to fix it?
