Hey guys, looking to buy a laptop before I go off to college that can run some basic games like D3, SC2, CS:GO, etc...

1) What is your budget?

600-700$

2) What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

Anywhere from 13-16 inches

3) What screen resolution do you want?

Doesn't really matter.

4) Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

Prefer to be more portable than huge and clunky.

5) How much battery life do you need?

Doesn't really matter.

6) Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

Listed above, D3, SC2, CS:GO, and possibly GW2 when it releases later? I'm okay with playing these all on low/med

7) What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.)

Skype video chats (need a built in webcam!), playing music (not a big priority, i'm not a huge audiophile), videos, will sometimes watch movies on it.

8) How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?

Minimum of 300 GB

9) If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them.
None

10) How long do you want to keep your laptop?

Ideally four years

11) If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them.

I don't want a huge clunky laptop, ideally it would be portable and sleek looking.

12) Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

Don't really mind, all brands are okay with me.

HP Pavilion dv4t-5100 14" Ivy Bridge Core i5 Laptop $698
Core i5-3210M 2.5 GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, 500Gb 7200rpm HDD, 14" 1366x767 LCD w/ Geforce GT 650M graphics card.

The i5-3210M / GT 650M combo should get you smooth, fluid game play on High graphics settings for D3 & SC2.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M review

You can get the GT 630M graphics card instead for around ~$575 and still get D3 & SC2 running smooth on Medium graphics settings. GW2 might need Low graphics for smooth gameplay in busy online events based on some of the beta tester comments

Okay, honestly, it is very possible to get a laptop that can handle D3, but the only major thing that you will be lacking is a graphics card. The graphics card is the key component that you will need to get D3 running smoothly on your laptop. I have a Macbook pro and it runs smoothly, however, the graphics card on it is very mediocre which means I have to tune down the graphics.

I'm fine with that, it's just that I've been reading mixed things about laptops with the HD 3000 integrated gfx and how it handles D3. Some people have said that it runs okay on low, while others say it runs at 20 fps on low.

Awesome man, thanks a lot. I swapped out the 650 for the 630 but got a 32 gig SSD since i can't go back to not having one.
Thanks again!
