Very good AA investigation in the nVNews forums

Definitely a fine job done by C-Ray, when looking at the screenies pay particular attention to the tree trunk closest to the player, the tile patterns on the ground and the ridge lines in the distance.

radeons are better for far cry, image quality is better with aa and af turned on. however i must say after the fiasco of last year nvidia quickly turned around and made a really nice product. they completely changed their approach and design on the other hand ati just improved the core and ram. on their new models. so for creativity i give nvidia tumbs up.when its available in mid july, im thinking of getting the msi nv6800gt, as its priced on the same level with x800pro and is a better performer than x800 pro in most games.and its higly overclockable as seen from the reviews. good times ahead for nvidia fans both with nforce platforms and 6800gt and ultra chips.

No geforce cards get better fps in farcry and have the same exact IQ. With SM 3.0 they will look even better.

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb)
Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360)
1024mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2)
Asus A7N8X-X

Ditto, BTW someone said that 1.1 patch for Far Cry had sm 3.0 exposed. It doesn't. We just got the updated for 1.1 and there is a mention of sm 3.0 in the code but its not implimented fully. We should have patch 1.2 end of next week or early the week after.

I think you put the 's' in the wrong place.

No geforce card get<b>s</b> better fps in FarCry and have the same exact IQ.

Performance right now is equal. The GF6800s win some the X800s win others. Really depends on settings and the margin of error is so small that you see two different reviewers having one or the other leading under the same conditions. And of course the FX vs R360 is no contest with the R9800XT leading under just about any condition and without the number of IQ issues that are present in the Geforces. Speaking of which...

This may change with Patch 1.2 and even with DX9.0c/SM3.0, but for now, which is reality and not speculation like the rest, they are dragging their IQ heals with the patch 1.1 and <A HREF="http://www.ixbt.com/video/itogi-video/bugs0504/gffx5900-farcry-bug2-1.jpg" target="_new">partial precision issues</A> (<A HREF="http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTA4NjQ1NDUyMmdJZmdKUDFJdlVfM181X2wuanBn" target="_new">Comparison to X800</A>), as well as sprite fogging issues (with both patch 1.0 and 1.1) both of which didn't go away with updated drivers, the only solution for the partial precision isssue is to NOT use patch 1.1 or WAIT for 1.2.

As for the promise of SM3.0 well it was promised before, what makes you think it's coming anytime soon? When it arrives then it'll matter.

lets just say its on its way :), they are in their last testing phase of patch 1.2.

Why do you keep showing drivers 61.11 and 61.12

61.34 has none of the partial precision issues.

It was something patch 1.1 and drivers set 61.34 took care of.

Its obvious you haven't tested out Far Cry with path 1.1 with any of the new drivers.

And suprisingly with higher precision the nV cards are equalling or beating the x800's.

lets just say its on its way
And that's just it. This industry is almost ALWAYS in a state of flux. I see big things coming, but for now without more than talking points, it's just as far away to the average buyer as an NV50/R500/Volari-that-works or HL2/D3/ElderScrolls4. Just over the horizon.

61.34 has none of the partial precision issues.
According to ComputerBase, that's not the case, they reviewed the X800 and GF6800 series cards with the 4.5 and 61.34 drivers, and still found it to have partial precision issues, they even showed the performance difference in their review;

<A HREF="http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=de_en&url=http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/hardware/grafikkarten/x800_pro_xt_pe_geforce_6800_gt_ultra/10/#far_cry_v1_1" target="_new">Translated review with FarCry w/ patch 1.1</A>
<A HREF="http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/hardware/grafikkarten/x800_pro_xt_pe_geforce_6800_gt_ultra/10/#far_cry_v1_1" target="_new">Original German</A>

Notice the performance figures to, and even look at the whole review for fill rate wins/loses. These cards are alot closer than people give either credit for. But those issues are still there according to them, and unless you have proof otherwise, then I trust the published review that actually shows the performance difference.

BTW, the first photo is from an FX, not a GF6800, and it's not fixed. As for the 61.34 themselves they <b>still</b> aren't official, so of course no official release notes either to confirm this, and while [H] hasn't updated their review, no one has made note of it being fixed.

As for the fogging issues (there's more than one), they're still there and got worse with some fixes with new drivers.

Its obvious you haven't tested out Far Cry with path 1.1 with any of the new drivers.
It's not my game dude, don't like it at all. The Demo was very stunning visually, but the game play sucked, and so far the reponse of everyone I respect who plays isn't positive. Sure they loved a new game, but it got boring quick. It pretty and all, but so far it's got limited gameplay and there are so many bug issues across so many platforms.

And suprisingly with higher precision the nV cards are equalling or beating the x800's.
Post a reputable comparison with some kind of proof, that's all I ever ask. Things will likely change, but I'd like to see that before believing it on someone else's word.

As for another review with the FX, look at the results change once AA is enabled in the game. Like Digit-Life mentioned way back, the latest drivers leave it up to the game, but no mention of this was made so some people may think they are getting AA when they are not. People who actually look at the reults will see the difference while they bench. Makes a huge difference in the results.

<A HREF="http://www.bit-tech.net/review/325/7" target="_new">http://www.bit-tech.net/review/325/7</A>

As for the SM3.0 in Patch 1.1, Crytek themselves said they added support, so either it was a PR lie, errrr.... move meant to prop up the unproven nV40 SM3.0 advantage, or it's there but unexposed. And it's a perfect example of why I don't buy the '<i>it's coming</i> , <i>it's there but not exposed</i> , <i>it'll fix everything</i>' claims without proof.

That was directly from thier reivew, Tell where it says the 6800 is using 16 bit?

I can't understand half of what the review was about and I don't see anywhere other then it talking about 16 for the FX line.

Yes the Fx can't do crap if it was forced 32 bit.

sm 3.0 was supposed to be in 1.1, but didn't make the final cut.

I'm not saying patch 1.2 will fixes everything. There are still issues with the nV drivers.

BTW the patch is not in a state of flux, when I get word of when we are getting the source, that means the patch is almost done. I got word of this last Wednesday.

Btw something is wrong with those number my gt is getting 40-60 fps in the cooler level, at 1600x1200 no aa no af high performance.

They are getting 33 :/

Also my x800xt is getting around 50-60, something is wierd about those benches.

And my system has a 2.53 ghz intel, and the ram is stock micron 1 gig. I don't see where they got thier numbers from.

Orginally we weren't talking about the Fx's they are crap.

Gotta be quick getting ready to see one of the following; Faranheit 9/11, Coffe and Cigarettes, Young Adam, SuperSizeMe or The Blind Swordsman, also don't want to get bogged down on this stuff again.

That was directly from thier reivew,
What was?

PP stands for PartialPrecision, look at the review again.

BTW the patch is not in a state of flux,

That may be, but it's still not released, so it's still a non-entity.

As for the difference between yours and their config, don't know. Their config is described <A HREF="http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=de_en&url=http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/hardware/grafikkarten/x800_pro_xt_pe_geforce_6800_gt_ultra/4/#testsystem" target="_new">at the beginning of the review</A>, english or german it's pretty clear what they are using, but as to the timedemo they may have their own method to avoid notorious benchmark cheating.

But just like every review the results are only true for their setup/tests, your milage may vary.

Orginally we weren't talking about the Fx's they are crap.
True but originally I wasn't talking about FarCry or even ATI, so if there are rules to this, then they were broken LONG ago.

However my post is a DIRECT response to this unsubstantiated statment;

No geforce cards get better fps in farcry and have the same exact IQ.
And my response fits in exactly to disproving THAT particular statement. Regardless of which series you chose that statement simply ignores the facts. Both new cards are closesly matched IMO, which may or may not change later, for the old cards the situation isn't even close. Maybe he meant Geforce4ti vs R8500, oh wait IQ's worse there too.

So simply put, the GF6800 has some nice options for AA as demonstrated very well by the UT screeies from C-Ray.

Opps sorry for that was directly form the review, but Those numbers are no where near what other bechmark sites are getting.

Like Guru 3d, Anandtech.

here is one from Guru3d,

<A HREF="http://guru3d.com/article/Videocards/135/1/" target="_new">http://guru3d.com/article/Videocards/135/1/</A>

Anandtech

<A HREF="http://anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=2091&p=18" target="_new">http://anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=2091&p=18</A>

Digit life's numbers aren't adding up. Both these sites the numbers are the same.

My numbers are closer to Guru3d and Anandtech (these are all benched with 32 bit precesion) The only why the 6800's will do partial precision is if its forced.

Ah ok missed the pp and the FX stuff :)

And just to add in alittle bit more spice here is a gt review from Digit-life which also confirms the numbers from Anandtech and Guru3d
