I'm looking for a new card, from what i have found both the GT and the X800 P are basically tied in most games, while the X800 P tends to run 2 or 3 fps faster with AA and Aniso. My big question is is the GT runing games at the same IQ as the X800 P??

For the most part, both cards currently run at about the same IQ. Differences are minor. Both cards have their pluses and minuses in that respect, nothing glaringly different right now unlike the FX series.

Things may change in the future with the addition of features, but their benifits you will have to decide on yourself.

The main thing is the pricing and availability, and based on what you wrote before I'd say that if you can get the GT for cheaper it's a good choice. Just be sure you look at all the features offered and what suits your needs. That Digit-Life review I poste for you is pretty detailed, and I know you saw the Guru review.

I think i'm going to go with the GT, because it is as fast as the X800 Pro right now in all respects, same image quality unlike the cursid FX series, and it has more new features so i think it has a bit more potential, even if they don't amount ot anything tangiable, it is still as fast as the ATI counterpart wich means I made a good choice, both are about the same price, 420 cheapest i can find for a Visiontek X800 Pro that is instock and 429 cheapest for a BFG 6800 GT i can find in stock, and both have lifetime warrenties, so you can't go wrong there. Thanks for clearing up the IQ question, i just wanted to make sure that the GT wasn't using crap image quality to attain good framerates.

Both are good cards, the gf 6 series thier latest drivers 61.34 and up took care of the crap shaders the fx line had. Its also nice that the nV cards have extra features which will help in the long run.

I'm planning on ocing it, i just ordered the BFG 6800 GT, from what I have heard BFG is one of the better companies and is known for their well ocing cards and lifetime warranty. I'm hoping to hit at lest 400 gpu and 525 on the ram or higher, that would be pretty close to Ultra speeds. Another big reason for choosing the GT is that it has 16 pipe lines unlike the X800 P's 12, i think that is the reason why it is faster than the X800 P at high res and ties with AA and Aniso on (2 or 3 fps diff is questionable diff because there is a percent error in the software, so i consider it a tie).

Right now it's basically a toss-up between ATi and nVidia; on paper, the NV40 is more forward-designed, but in benchmarks the X800s are no slouch. The problem is that these cards JUST came out, so pricing and availability are wild, and because it will take a long time for driver improvements to really squeeze the most out of the hardware, it's just too early to tell.

nVidiots are touting SM3.0 support and dynamic branching and looping as very important features and fanATics are standing by the AA/AF performance and the fact that the X800s are winning a lot of the tests in high res. AND AA/AF. Mostly it's just either camp throwing stones at one another. There is very little software to demonstrate the superiority of either GPU, so it's best to just wait. In the end I think that the performance difference will be very narrow and not that much different than it is now.

Personally I am impressed with the 6800GT because of the excellent performance and the nice little benefit of future feature support. However, $400 is wayyy too much for something that is going to plummet in price after one year. For now I'll stick with my 9800 Pro.

well Ati's drivers are mature, there won't be much more out of games that the x800 series will get. Af is where the nV series loose a bit of ground. But even then the GT with its optimizations off still leads of the x800 pro. Optimizations on its equal to the x800 xt, only loosing to the xt with AA and AF.

Also keep in mind the 6800nu is very close to the x800pro also. In Far Cry its marginally 3% slower at 1600x1200 then the x800pro for a hundred bucks less.

This is kinda of a bad benchmark since they don't tell ya what drivers they used.

Surprising the nV cards fall behind in Call of Duty, which is very odd.

But it does look like nV took care of the Dx shader issues.

Unfortunatly the gt wasn't in this mix of tests but if the 6800nu is only 3% behind the x800pro that tells alot.

Hmm odd thing is they didn't mention if AA and AF were on either.

Btw there is a very good chance Half Life 2 will come out with SM 3.0 support aswell.

Which is exactly why I wouldn't buy any of the new cards yet... for me, the SM3.0 issue would be the deciding factor because, judging by the benchmarks, the two cards are too close in performance to draw real conclusions.

well the gt is up against the x800 xt where the x800xt is 499 and the gt is 399. Thats a no brainer. The x800 pro doesn't compete with the gt by any means. If the choice is between the x800pro and the gt well gt is better.

Better performance
Similiar IQ
and a 100 bucks less

This is coming down to more of a price war but I don't see ATi adding another card to thier line up.

6800nu vs x800pro
6800gt vs x800xt
6800u vs x800xt pe

The numbers all very close when ya look at this way. All thats left are the additional features, prices and avaialability.

your're right price wise performance wise they line up with the ultra vs the xt pe, gt with that xt and non ultra with the pro (I don't see how the non ultra will compete against the pro with 4 less pipelines, but I don't have a non ultra just have to wait to see when more benches come out) nV's cards cost less for the same perfromance as a competative x800.

I guess it all just depends on which benchmarks you want to use to prove your point. Anyway, I'm leaving for Africa tonight and I'll be back later in July. Everyone take care and try to enjoy the summer while it lasts. Later!!!

You know I think I already saw the GURU3D article, having mentioned it to him and all!

lol actaully I mentioned it a day before ya did, and check out anandtech and tweak.de, and digit life. If it was just one benchmarker, they got very similiar results its one thing.
