More detailed looks at FarCry updates

HotHardware looks at the Affect of DX9.0C, then the 1.2 Patch, and then running Sm 3.0 versus 2.0.

The biggest boost comes from the Patch iself, with SM3.0 offering minor, but noticeable speed improvements.

PCPerspective does the FRAPS Histogram some of us have been hoping for, showing the impact throughtout the demos, not just avg fps;

Global improvement, but nothing that really changes the shape of the histogram, just shifting it, meaning the rough points are still pretty rough, but that it get a global boost of a few fps, which is good compared to simply increases in the max fps boosting the avg.

The GT sure is nice. But the Ultra is for the most part losing to the XT with High res & AA/AF. If you buy an Ultra or XTpe, wouldn't you want to play at those settings? The latest farcry patch and the NV demo benchies are totally geared to show off NV Hardware, and the patch has shown to have lowered the score of the ATI cards and caused some visual bugs. I don't think either company won or lost so far this round. Come a few months from now, I may just agree with you.

Actually was looking at the speed loss, that could be due to dx9c and not the patch. I don't see how Crytek would purposefully slow down thier engine on ATi cards. Also the bugs might be whats slowing it down too. Hopefully that will be taken care of though.

This also could be the reason people aren't benching ATi verse Nv on games with dx9c with other games.

Yeah, hope so. I'm glad NV got somewhat of a speed boost, but I don't like to see the ATI slow down that much. I'd avoid that patch unless I owned a 6800 series card. And since I couldn't convince a compusa manager to order me a GT for the 30% off, i doubt I'll be owning a 6800 series. If I see one for $280 anytime soon, I'll jump on it.
