Catalyst 4.7 now available @ ATI

Just went up a short while ago, EB warned about it earlier.

I WILL be updating the review this weekend up to and including the 4.7s.

I want Speedy to see if he can add to the guide...a lot of the improvements in 4.7 are x800 specific :frown: . Actually, I read they were 256MB specific in the betas...maybe I'll give it a try to see if I get said boosts in speed.

I will be more than happy to add SpeedUK's numbers, or even to cede my sticky to him (for space) it's up to him if he has time (it does take a fair chunk of one's day even if you don't have to watch the benchies all the way through [that's why it was nice to have some sport to watch while doing it]).

Thanks for Reminding me. I'm at work, check out <A HREF="http://img48.exs.cx/img48/3497/ATI_Dnld_SPEED.jpg" target="_new">this download speed</A> (about 10-15 seconds to complete).

I was probably limited by ATI's Server Speed! :lol:

HEHE, and I can have multiple dnlds at that speed. :evil:

Now I gotta burn it to a CD-RW, which will take longer! D'oh!

I did some on my 9800XT and I doubt they will be FM approved. The IQ in Game 3 is HORRENDOUS. Anyway, here are Aquamark3, 3DMark01se and 3DMark03 scores listed below...compared to Cat4.6s. If some one can host some screenies I'll send them the fugly Trolls' Lair shots for the world to see.

Somewhat...they are faster (slightly), but IQ is noticably worsened in some scenarios. I wouldn't mind seeing Omega's versions for the fixes, but that will have to wait. I would also like to see the gains on an X800 series card--they're supposed to be quite high (unlike those on my 9800XT).

I'll try real gaming tomorrow and see if much has really changed.

I've been using <A HREF="http://www.imageshack.us/" target="_new">IMAGESHACK</A> because they host LARGE images (IIRC 800KB max). No registration either.

I didn't load the new drivers due to time constraints tonight, but I will look at them on the weekend, and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those issues you post. I sure hope they didn't mess with IQ because of a focus on the new generation of cards. I hate when they do that like they did with the R8500/R9000 series, and NV's been doing with the GF4 for the forcewares, and the FX for this generation.

I have more...but three is more than enough for this blatent problem. Also checked to see if these were artifacts due to clockspeed....they aren't, they appeared at even 250/250 on my 9800XT. Oh well...maybe TAA will make up for it (not that I run any of my games at that high of a framerate anyway).

Hmm third one didn't show up I got redirected to their (ImageShack's) start page, I wonder if there's a limit or something. It is free after all, but weird.

Anywhoo, seriously those are BRUTAL I'm actually going to go against my better judgement (not because I'm worried, but because it means extra work uninstalling them later for the review) and load them up tomorrow night just to test that.

What were your settings? Res./AA/Texture quality?

BTW thanks for the screenies. Definitely something to take note of. Like I said, I hope they don't compromise our cards for the sake of the new ones.

It was a fresh install of everything...not a setting was changed from stock. As for why the third one didn't load...don't know (it was the last one I uploaded, so a limit is probably why.)

I did some research...turns out it's a <A HREF="http://www2.ati.com/drivers/Catalyst_47_Release_Notes.html" target="_new">known issue</A> for all cards...they aren't forgetting their older children yet! But they are spoiling the younger ones...all advances are for the X800 series. I played around in some other stuff and haven't noticed it anywhere else...I imagine it's an optimization of sorts (but my tests showed little improvement in Game 3). Maybe they are forgetting about us :frown: .

i am reluctant to upgrade to 4.7, because 4.6's work so good.. but ill try them tonight and post my 3dmark score
