are you using the stock heatsink?

and are you checking the cpu temperatures
February 1, 2013 9:31:54 PM

not the stock heatsink its not some crazy good one but its decent and my temps dont go above 55 and like i said they can be at like 25 when it crashes if im just web browsing

ok

would suggest running memtest to make sure its not the ram
February 1, 2013 9:39:28 PM

i have tested the ram about a week ago and it was fine, using a number of programes, i was also told to test gfx card did that too, no problems, but i noticed a noise about a week ago it was like a scratching sound,(only quiet) i thought it was a fan on a wire or something so i powered off my ppc opened it up no wires anywhere powerd on same sound for about 2 mins then went away, thought nothing of it but it keeps coming bakc for about 5 mins at a time then goes, i read it could be my harddrive, is this true and can hhd cause crashes?

yes could be your hard drive

run a hard drive test
February 1, 2013 9:46:36 PM

ok will try now, something else after a crash today which lead me to belive it could be my hdd when i booted my pc it came up with something testing my disk C consistency, it did the test with no problems.

Hi :)

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive...

All the best Brett :)

the hard drive test should be more thorough

should usually have a short dst and a long dst

and you did say it was an older hard drive so may be the problem

if it still passes then try the sfc /scannow command in a command prompt opened as administrator
February 1, 2013 10:13:15 PM

did both tests no prblems with the hdd
February 1, 2013 10:15:10 PM

try sfc /scannow
February 1, 2013 10:15:27 PM

yep i did
February 1, 2013 10:16:47 PM

no issues with it?
February 1, 2013 10:17:01 PM

nope
February 1, 2013 10:24:43 PM

basically tested every thing but your psu

though just out of interest i would look in the bios and make sure the bios has set the memory correctly

on my second pc--i7-920 the bios always sets the memory timings wrong which leads to some problems

i have to manually set them to what they should be

could always try running a linux live cd--see if you can replicate the problem then you know its definately hardware not software related

other than that or your psu being the problem guess i am stumped
February 1, 2013 10:39:19 PM

its pissing me off, i doubt it will be my psu as it is a good one and a new one, i dont want to spend loads on a new gfx card if my pc will crash, but at the sametime i dont want to but a hdd to stop the crashes if thats not it
February 1, 2013 10:53:07 PM

corsair is a good psu--got one myself--but even new stuff can be faulty

but yeah no point in spending cash unless you know for sure somethings faulty

your cpu has integrated graphics

try removing the graphics card and see what happens

I HAD THE SAME SAMEEEEEEE problem.I changed one by one all my hardware parts to see where the problem was and it happened to be the processor (I don't know if it was the thermal paste, the processor fan or the processor itself) So anyway i fully changed it and the problem is gone BTW i Know how irritating this problem is it can't be described in words haha . Cheers ! and btw i have and had the same processor haha xD
