Random Hard Drive Failure

I was working with my laptop when suddenly, BSOD. It involved the code 0x00000077, but before I could read it, the system re-booted. As I was waiting for windows to load, the HP firmware said "No boot device found"
So, I removed the drive and listened to it power up, only to hear a siren like tone coming from the drive. Kinda like a low note followed by a high note. That would repeat until powered down. The drive does not spin up, and it is a Western Digital 350 gb Scorpio Blue. any way that I could fix this?

  1. make sure to test the drive in another computer as a second or external drive, some damaged drives may not work as a master drive but could work as slave so you can scan it to remove the bad sectors. but if the other computers could not recognize it then it is unfortunate to say that there is not much you can do at this point. you could try to freeze it, that might give you few minutes to back up some important files, but most likely it won't work.
  2. hello evilgenius,

Sounds like hardware issues, you will need to physically take out the hardware(e.g. sound cards, tv tuner, etc.) just start system with only the bare motherboard, video, ram and hard drive.

Make sure you have the latest drivers, but not beta drivers.
