Hi , I've recently purchased a 9800 pro video card and is having performance issues. Compared to my old Geforce 3 ti 500 it performs slightly better in Direct 3D games. However , when it comes to open GL games such as Counter-Strike , the 9800 pro is significantly slower than my old geforce 3 ti 500 card , frame rate wise. Using the 9800 pro I get tons of slow downs , while my geforce 3 ti 500 gets almost none.

Could this be a settings problem or is it because of the video card? Or is it because my Nforce mobo doesn't run well with this video card?

I've got all the latest updates and drivers.

Please help , here's my system specs:

AMD XP 2000+
Nforce Asus Ultra mobo ( 4X)
512 DDR Ram
Windows XP pro

It is urgent that I have to return this card as soon as possible if there is a problem. So please reply as soon as you can. Thanks in advance.

I heard somewhere that ATI cards do not perform well with Half - Life and counter-strike , could this be true?

Downoad and run drivercleaner and get rid of all those nvidia files... if that doesn't work, I will trade you my GF4 Ti4200 for your 9800, but only if you cover shipping... I know my GF4 Ti4200 will kick around your GF3 Ti500... I am now running two NF7-S boards, and both are currenetly using ATI cards... the lack of posts to help you is because this is an old and often repeated topic... if you research this problem and try some of the solutions you find, and are still having problems, the people here will help you... but a lot of people (both noobs and nvidia fan boys) start off making the leap from nvidia to ATI, have problems, and then blaim ATI... the members here are kind of defensive when it comes to their ATI cards...

And ATI will rule HL2 when it comes out...

Well , the thing is that I reformatted my computer and then installed the 9800 pro , which meant that everything in my hard drive got wiped clean , how could there be any reminents of nvidia drivers?

Could this be a configuration problem? Since the 9800 pro does performat better than the Geforce in Direct 3D games , despite lacking in Half - Life.

since the change to 1.6 all ATI products have had problems with half-life engine based games, my 9800pro gets drops every so often with Day of Defeat.
It's a problem they can't figure out why it happens. Hopefully they will have a driver update that will fix it. But it's doubtful, ati doesn't care for a 5+ year old engine, they are looking ahead, optimizing for future games.
