the easiest way to put it would be drive in use by operating
system..........when you reboot the drive is unmounted and convertion takes
place.

so to do that would I choose yes or no to dismount before converting?

You MUST unmount the drive before converting. If the drive can't be
unmounted you are given the option of converting during the next boot up,
before the system locks the drive.
