Is it dead now?

I have a old laptop running vista, it was having problems and would not connect to internet, I tried to reinstall using original vista CD but got blue screen "a problem has benn detected and windows has been shut down"

I formatted the hard drive from recovery console DOS using the command format c: now getting the same blue screen when putting in my installation disk and without any disk in CD drive get BOOTMBR is missing message.

Any ideas as to where I go from here ?

Is the hard drive dead ?

  1. What error code are you getting in the blue screen? That can help us to know if the problem is the RAM, OS or other component.

  3. Inaccessable boot device, sounds like the hard drive or cd/dvd rom drive

As tremec say, the problem is related to you HDD or DVD drive, check the configuration of your devices in BIOS and make you sure that your have all drivers update.
