Ok i got a 1996 chevy blazer 4-door (auto) that has a 4.3 liter vortec V-6 and i want to add some things to improve performace for around 600 bucks. I was thinking about a supercharger, a chip, or a turbo. Do you have any ideas on brands or websites that might sell this stuff? I know this isnt the website to be asking this stuff, but some of you guys might have some auto mechanic know-how and if this is a job for a pro or could you do this is your garage without a large problem.
A supercharger or a turbo will cost a lot more than 600 bucks. You're looking at around 3 grand to supercharge it right. There's cheaper ways, but nothing comes close to 600. I suppose you could get a small nitrous kit for that, if you install it yourself, but then you have to pay every time you use it, and it's not there full time.
The best source i've found for parts is

They have a free catalog you can order, it's great.
you can also order a really good catalog from
<A HREF="http://www.pawengineparts.com" target="_new">http://www.pawengineparts.com</A>
site is lacking, but their catalog is like a phone book

Hmm... Can anyone say RICEBOY!?? HAHAH. You are funny man. My bone stock Toyota Supra would dust that thing, even with a standard turbo kit. Pimpin out the SUV hua (ohh, and the automatic just makes it even cooler!)
O yea! My bone stock Lamborghini Diablo will make your supra look like a geo metro running on two cylinders. And who u Callin rice boy? You’re the one who alleging drives a toyota! What a dickhead!
Mech, I have seen several full sized Chevy’s that were blown but they all had the V8 350. It was cool to see em spin four 36” tires but it’s going to cost more then 600 like goat said. I guess u could start with an exhaust then intake and a chip. That would be the most economical rout but with the least power.
Thx & cya
<font color=green>I may go to <font color=red>hell</font color=red> but at least I won't get lonely</font color=green>
Yea, and my '70 GTO, with a not so stock chevy 327 would give you a nice good look at my bumper. for less than 2k I was able to bring a fairly stock 327 to somewhere around 400 horse power. Try doing that with ANY ricerocket.
Mech, depending on how complicated your stock exhaust is, putting in headers and exhaust is one of the best bang for your buck upgrades. If you change out the exhaust though, on a model that late, you have to make sure to put the O2 sensor back in.
Could also look at better induction systems. if it's fuel injected, perhaps a high flow throttle body, and better air filter.

ON the cheap? Better get Nitrous-a shot of power when you need it. If you need more power full time, consider getting a fuel injected 350 engine/wiring harness/computer from a wreck for around $1200 if you can find an honest junkyard. That's about 2/3 what a decent supercharger settup would cost you. Besides, if you did the swap, you could sell you old stuff and get some money back. The engine is actually a bolt-in, but you might have to switch to a short water pump and front mounted electric fan to get enough radiator clearance. Check Summit for the water pump and fan. I could do the job in about 2 full days.
A cat-back exhaust system should add 10-15 horse power and around 30 ft/lbs of torque for around 300. Thats how much the kit would add to my friends 95 Dakota with a 3.9 engine. The Chevy should be in the same range for price and power increase. With the extra 300 you could look into getting a chip and K/N filter. A few smaller things will help out enough for 600.
If at first you don't succeed, <font color=red>flame, flame</font color=red> again!!
