I have the problem that XP halts and display freezes when i go offline
with the modem. I have to do a hard reset, no errorcode available. Has
anyone any idea?

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the Modem device, Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the
device drivers again automatically.
if no help
To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW (see: Description of Windows XP and Windows Server
2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe): http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] -us;310747 )

Thanks a lot to mark Furgusens suggestions. I reinstalled modem drivers
and ran System File Checker, both negative. I now suspect Service Pack
2 as the problem occured first around the time when I had installed it.
Will keep you posted.
