I tried to turn on my Gateway computer and got this:

:\winnt\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt

I saw a past posting to fix it, so I tried recovery console and tried
this:

That did not help and by the way it was not asking for a password so
then I found this:

To fix the "windows\system32\config\system file is mising or corrupt"
where Xp wont boot:

Go to Recovery Console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit

That did not work but now it boots up and shows the windows screen and
scrolls down a bunch of things and just stops. I tried to do the first
solution again but now it's asking me for an administrator password,
which I don't know. I've read some information that says that the
password is different from the password on windows...any
suggestions...please help me....
