Forum Windows XP : General Discussion problem with 'Power on self test...' on startup

Soon after installing an update to WinXP Pro this occured:
(I wasn't using the system at the time, but the user said an option came up on startup, before the windows screen, and they selected something, not knowing what it was...)

Now on startup of the system a sound file plays a voice saying:
"Power on self test complete, now booting to operating system". Which in itself doesn't seem to critical, but how did this sound file or setting make it's way into the startup? Is there a setting related to this? How could this change have occured, and how can it be reverted to it's previous state?

I'm thinking the user may have triggered access to some setting thru the keyboard on startup, but really I have no idea how this change occured or what it's directlly related to.

Power On Self Test (POST)is something that needs to be done and the process where the initialization of all h/w occurs immediately after the computer is tunred on and the point bios recognizes all h/w. Regarding that tone, there must be an option in the BIOS to shut it up. Check owners manual.

Talking BIOS. Sounds great, no cryptic beep codes to look up, but after 3 days it gets anyoying.

Then again most people prefer R2D2 to C3PO. So maybe MBs should just stick to beeps.

Maybe they should just have a recording of someone saying beep.
