Ok I'm not sure what's going on with my system but something is definitely off. I "think" it's related to the graphics card. Hopefully one of you guys can tell me what it might be....

My specs:
AMD64 3200+ (newcastle core)
OCZ 3500EB 2X512Mb memory
MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard (nforce3)
HIS ICEQ ATI 9800 Pro 128Mb vid card

Software:
Win 2000 Pro
DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
Catalyst 4.7

When I'm just running a web browser or music player or most normal stuff in windows, there is no problem at all. When I run a game like Farcry or DAoC even, I have problems. Half of the time when the game or system crash occurs the VPU recover utility comes up and says it rebooted the graphics accelerator. Crashes happen pretty frequently. MOST of the time it just results in a game crash. Occasionally it crashes all the video partially or completely.

I really have no idea what could be wrong with my system. I have all the latest drivers (I think). I don't know a lot about memory timings but the bios is set to "auto" for all the timings at the moment. I disabled the AGP fast write option and that seemed to improve stability for a few games somewhat but didnt fix the problem. I have the AGP aperature at 128. I am not overclocking the CPU or graphics card. All voltages are set at the lowest setting or default setting.

There is one bios option for memory settings that I am unsure of labeled "1T/2T Memory Timings". The default was 2T, where it is now.

Could the problem be with my memory settings? Or is it the drivers for the card or motherboard? Or something with the card itself or bad compatibility with the motherboard? I really have no clue. I would be extremely grateful if someone could shed some light on the answer. I should also note that this is a new computer. I've never had an nvidia card in it or anything like that.

CPU temp 45 deg C
Sys temp 45 deg C

Pretty sure my video card temp is ok. It has that huge ICEQ fan on it and I have it on the high setting all the time....

1st Is that ICEQ fan original, or did you add it? It may be mounted improperly if you did it yourself. Check your video card temp if you can just to be sure. you may have to get a hold of some kind of thermal probe.

2nd I would make sure the power connector going the the card is a dedicated lead (directly off the PSU, with no other devices on the line)
