Press alt+ctrl+tilde to get into the console, then type "timdemo demo1" w/o the quotes. I suggest you run it twice and take the 2nd result, because it was choppy for me the first time, and was not the 2nd time as it had all been loaded.

1024x768 High detail @ 200x11: 50.0 fps
1024x768 High detail @ 225x11: 51.0 fps

Specs are 9800 pro flashed to XT and at stock XT speeds (will test to find max D3 OC), XP 2400 mobile at 2200mhz (forgot it was so low, i had it low cause of temps and probs with one game but ill put it back up and test again soon).

K i ran it at my 24/7 speed of 225x11 (2475) and got 51 FPS, so not much of a change!

That sounds like a rly nice score for ur specs... could you list your settings in detail, both in D3 and in your ATI control panel?

When I run the demo, AA is not on, but in game it is on, and i cannot get it to turn off. It looks like at least 4xAA, and makes it run much slower than I want it to. I have AA set to app pref in the ctrl panel, and I have it set to off in D3, but it is still there. I know the game is dark but I am not imagining anything. I can see the visual difference in the timedemo to in game. Anyone else have this problem or know how i can fix it?

For the control panel I have AA set under custom settings for OpenGL, set to performance 2X, Texture Pref set to Performance, Mipmap Detail level Performance, and Vsync off. I have AA set to off in game, but im not sure if it overrides the control panel. I dont think you can actually turn it all the way off in there either.

Mmm, k. I have AA/AF set to app. pref in the ctrl panel, and all detail settings set to max, and vsync off. I think Doom 3 uses 8x aniso on "high", that's what it looks like in the config file anyways.

I'm about to go hook up my computer to our tv and 5.1 system in the living room... this should scare the sh*t out of me (pray for my soul!!!!!!!!).

I don't understand the anisotropic filtering settings for Doom, but I think it's disabled on my system (it doesn't look like it's enabled, but who knows). My drivers are set to app. control, so I'll assume that they are not enabled in these tests...

I'm going to reformat my computer, I think, and install the latest Catalyst drivers because I'm convinced that something is not right. Recently I uninstalled the Cat. 4.5's, because of the Thief-3-shadow-issues, and went with the 4.4s. I used Driver Cleaner 3, and everything seemed fine, but these numbers are a little bit perplexing... My CPU is somewhat slower than the 9800 Pro benchmarks that I've observed, but it shouldn't be that dramatic (around 50% faster than my results!!).

Switching the AGP aperture between 128 and 256 made no difference in performance on my system. 4xAA makes the game look a lot better, but the performance hit is <i>huge</i>.

The reason why the second time the demo runs better is becuase of the paging. After the 1st run a lot of the game data is already in the RAM, hence during the 1nd run we get most HITS. 1st run results in MISSES making use of the HDD then.

Following are my results:

Wow, there's a huge difference between 9800Pro, and 9600XT. Is it because of 256-bit memory? You only gain 4-5fps when you overclock the 9800Pro to XT hmm...

Well if you read what we said my ATI CP settings are a little higher, although those generally don't make a big performance difference. There are also other possible differences we're not accounting for. Also my 9800 Pro isn't "overclocked" to 9800 XT, it has a 9800 XT BIOS, and yeah, that does make a difference.

I'm also surprised at the 9600 XTs results... very disappointing. I guess I'd play at 800x600 Medium probably, no AA or anything, which would still look pretty good.

BTW, playing on the tv with surround sound in a dark room was an extremely awesome and fairly scary experience! I recommend trying it out! Also, it looks DAMN good, like an uber xbox on steroids, because of the bluring of TVs, and the fact that my computer well surpasses the power of an xbox... or 2.

Ok, I reformatted my computer and went through all the numbers.

Catalyst 4.9 Beta Drivers

High Quality

1024x768 no AA 31.3 FPS

800x600 no AA 39.8 FPS

Basically, there is no tangible increase in performance on my system after I reformatted and installed the 4.9 Betas. I don't understand how the average FPS could be almost <i>half</i> of what you guys are getting.. WTF?!

It runs really fast on high quality at 800x600, and it still looks awesome, but I'm really dissappointed. I wonder if I fried something in my graphics card, but I don't see how that would have happened. I'll have to do some research on this matter.

and yeah..sth must be wrong, you are only getting 2 more FPS than a 9600XT, did you try to OC ur cpu to see?

You can edit the config file to disable AA and aniso if you feel like it just back it up incase.
You can try the Cache tweak worked for me. didnt bench really no time! tonight probly but runing smoother in 1180 than 1024 without the tweak...

Will post bench tonight but its silky smooth at medium one res over 1024 and eveything turned on in advanced...
havent try high yet cause I have 128meg....

You will get better results if you have the 9800pro256mb than the 9800pro128mb from OCing/Flashing to XT.

The REAL 9800XT will give a higher minFPS too.

The whole game is only 1.5, so I doubt that labbbby. Really, the size of this game is quite impressive. Far Cry is 2.5, the HL2 beta I have is like 4, battlefield is almost 3, UT2k4 is over 5 freakin gigs... so I'm very impressed that they kept it to 1.5. Id knows what they're doing!

Yeah, I got AA off now... set it to app. pref in the Open Gl options in the ATI control panel. I forgot it was OGL.

oh kewl and yes I was impress by the size of it too but I am under the impression they cant cut that much stuff out of it to have a working demo...Maybe im wrong tough.
And somebody mentionned that demo are usually to hype up the game before or just after its released D3 doesnt need that hehe.
