ATI Radeon 9600XT 256Mb

I have £120-£140 to spend on a new graphics card. I can go for a Radeon 9600XT or a 9800SE, soes anyone have either of these, or can u help me with some pro's and con's of each please?

Get the 9600XT or try get a 128Megs Radeon 9800 PRO. 256Megs is not very useful with this GPU generation.

9800 has an advantage of having 256 bit memory interface (9600 has 128 bit) but 9800 (non XT) clock speed is less than 9600XT. See the comparison chart for more details.
As for real world performance, look at the <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=409019#409019" target="_new">thread</A> that relates to Doom 3 performance results. A lot of us have posted out results there and U can see the performances of the cards. In the end its u have to decide how much are u willing to pay. pounds 140 ~ $200...$240 can get u a good card.

9800 also has 2x the pipelines of 9600.

if those two are your only choices, get the 9600xt, but look for the 128 mb card if you can find it. the 9800se is garbage.

The memory bandwidth was already mentioned. It's too bad the average 9800SE has 1/2 the bandwidth of the 9800 and is actually equivalent to a 9500 non-pro.
