DirectX 10

This may have already been asked here but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know the approx. release of directx 10? I want to upgrade my graphics card soon to a Geforce 6800ish but I heard from a few people that DX10 is coming out soon so I should way to get a card compatable with it. Let me know what you guys think.

Who told you that? DXNext is being released with Longhorn in 2006.

I thought it sounded funny. My old room mate is the one who told me that and then I heard it from someone else online in one of the games I play. 6800 it is.

Not for a long time. Its being reserved for the next OS. For right now, there is plenty of letters in the alphabet to make dx9 updates.
