Ipod driver wont install

i have an ipod photo when i plug it in via usb my pc reads it but the driver
wont install. thried all the updates possible and nothing. i have a sony vaio
with ms xp home edition, it has 2 hrd drives. i conect othe usb devices and
they work fine. the ipod is the only thng it doesnt work. can anyone help me
