I have a Geforce Ti 200... I've been trying to stretch it out as far as I can. I can't find any good info to compare its performance to any modern cards. I only have about $150 to spend on an upgrade, so I am looking at Radeon 9600xt. Is this a big enough step up in performance? Or should I try to get 6 more months out of my card, and wait for prices on Radeon 9800xt to drop?

I dont know by how much will 9800xt drop. I mean, if it has to drop it wont go much below than whats it at now. I think they have already stopped making those cores and hence OEMs arent making them any more. So prices will be stable till the OEMs do a garage sale, which wont happen for a while.

there no ti200 there. but ti400 is there. see whatever it gets and reduce a few FPS.

Another thread has a guy who has a similar quest. And i told him that i have a 9600xt for sale. Look at classifieds.

9600XT would be a HUGE leap upwards, but you might be able to find an old 9700 Pro (New Old Stock clearence item) within your budget, which would have even better performance than the 9600XT.

On those charts, they are using a Geforce 4, mine is a Geforce 3!

I was looking at a "refurbished" Radeon 9700 PRO, but I think I want to buy new, so I have a good warranty just in case.

New Old Stock 9700 Pro's also come with a 3 year warranty as long as you keep the receipt.

It's a huge improvement to go from a GF3 to a R9600XT.

Look at these reviews. Note in UT2003 the R9600XT doubles the framerates of the GF3Ti200. Also in a more demanding game Unreal 2, the GF3Ti200 got 33 fps at 800x600 and 27 fps at 1024x768. While the R9600XT got 88 and 69 fps. You'll see that difference for sure in games. Yes, the R9700 Pro is way ahead of the R9600XT with 107 and 92 fps. Now break out far cry and forget about it. 640x480x32 lowest details that GF3 will struggle.

I went from a GF3 Ti200 64MB (Which was a great card BTW) to a r9600XT, and I can tell you first hand, you'll wonder why it took so long to upgrade.

Seriously, the 9600XT is a great card, and you will see a HUGE increase in FPS for any game. definatly worth the 150. Unless of course you can manage to find a 9700 or 9800 Pro for that price.

I went from a GF3TI200 128MB to a 9600XT and it was the best, most economical choice I made.

LOL, what does 3dmark2001se mean?

I have a extremely OC'ed GF4Ti4200 that almost hit's 16K with the 4403 drivers and no cheats. So does stepping up to a 9800 Pro that scores say 17K mean there is no real world improvement for games. No, it's a huge step up, just like GF3 to R9600XT is.

By the way, if you like 3dmarks so much, post some 3dmark03 compare links so we can see how well that killer GF3 does in a more Video-card oriented synthetic benchie.

If you want to compare the performance of your Geforce3 Ti 200 on modern charts, just look at the numbers for a Radeon 9000 or 9200 (not the SE's though). These will be VERY close to what your Ti200 can do.

If there's no 9000 or 9200, look for a 9000 PRO or 8500. The Ti200 will perform very close to these cards as well, maybe ~5% to ~10% less.

Heh, yeah I'm pretty poor right now. Looks like for my budget the 9600xt is a pretty good way to go. I'll keep looking for those better cards on sale though... Thanks for the advice guys.
