Hey guys i was wondering which card would be better for playing doom3 a Gainward G force 2 pro 450 64DDR or a G force 4 mx440se,i know neither of these card are really adequate to play doom3 but ya its all i have got.Your help would be greatly appreciated

Too nicely

Have you thought about maybe a TI series card? Maybe either a TI4200, or maybe picking up a used TI-4600 or a TI-4400. The TI cards would run Doom3 pretty good, and wouldn't cost you very much at all. A TI-4400 can be picked up on eBay for $15-30.

Out of the two I would lean towards the GeForce 4, MX440SE

That gainward card (I had one), overclocks like crazy. I'd say that one.

vs.
250/400 out of the box which you'll probably be able to get to 250/500 easily. I think I had mine at 270/505.

Just enable coolbits in the registry to unlock the NV overclocking utility:

run regedit then go to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]

create a new DWORD called CoolBits with a value of 3

This registry patcher download will do it for you if you are uncomforatable with regedit.

Note: I have not used this on the newest drivers to see if it still works. Anyone else know?

Image quality? They will both have the same picture quality, one will just be capable of more FPS than the other in games and such.

Both of those cards are DirectX 7 cards.

If you want to play Doom on the cheap, get yourself a DirectX 8 card at least... it'll help alot with the shadows & such.

A cheap Geforce3 Ti 200/500 from ebay would be much better than a Geforce4 MX, and a cheap Geforce4 Ti 4200 would be even better than that... the 4200 is the best way to Doom3 on the cheap. :)

dude! i have absolutely no idea about getting a ti4400 on ebay for 15-30 us dollars, the lowest I saw was about 50-60 dollars.

They seem to go in streaks, I personally was watching for a while for a spare computer, and saw quite a few go for $30 or so. They have recently gone up a little, might keep watching see what happens. This was about a month ago when I was looking. Obvisuly on eBay there are high and lows, so keep an eye out.
