New Control 'Center' for Catalyst drivers

After all my B1tching about no new control panel we were shown earlier this summer, guess what shows up on <A HREF="http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=12&submit.y=2" target="_new">ATI's driver page</A>... the <A HREF="http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-CCC-8-042-040803a-016701c.exe" target="_new">New Control <b>CENTER</b></A> (should be spelled <b>centre</b>!)

Wavey Dave at B3D has <A HREF="http://www.beyond3d.com/misc/ace/" target="_new">a review</A> as well.

Thanks to the EliteBastardz and B3D for this tip.

I installed the new panel. Its pretty sweet. I miss being able to set separate AA/AF settings for D3D and OpenGL Guess I could make different profiles.

Well I made one profile my -doom- profile. AA turned off, AF on 4x

Then for everything else I have another profile that sets my AA back to 2x where I likes it.

Yeah I like what I've heard so far, better multi-monitor support, and profiles (which you always had with Omega,Radlinker, Rage3D, and A-tool IIRC or at least Radlinker.

Anywhoo, can't wait to go home and install them. For some reason they don't work on my laptop at work!

now one thing i dont like abt it, and stuff like it...they put too many startup entries. I like limiting myself to abt 10, that adds more and runs in the background. Now that I have disabled startup stuff, it wont even start. Hve to do that restart runtime, to get it back working.

Yeah Canada follows a lot of British culture.

Heck, I'd wager the "oo" pronunciation of "ou" comes from combining British and American, getting an in-between accent. "Aboot! Moontains!"

The bad thing is, it doesn't work with all Radeon cards

I kept getting the "no display driver installed" error message, when I first installed the control centre:)

Very frustrating.

I tried all of the recommendations, including the newest Net Framework SP1 that is available....nothing worked.
It turned out that ZoneAlarm(my firewall) would hang during startup, and not let the control center icon start up in the system tray.
I deleted Zone Alarm tonight, and downloaded SP2. I'm giving MS's firewall a shot and see how it does.

So far, the new control panel is pretty good.
I set my app profiles for a couple of games, and they seem to work pretty well. I think I'm going to play some Doom 3 multi for a while. I'll report back in later:)

So no problems downloading SP2?

Good me neither, also got a fully packed SP2 for recovery purposes (no more downloading 30 security updates).

The Laptop had more trouble adding the SP2 update for some reason (froze halfway through first try). And for some reason it just won't install the new Control Panel on the Dell.

BTW, I have Zone Alarms, still in the nice shiny box it came in with the saran... err.. shrink wrap still on. Using router firewall works better for me. I turned on the MS firewall to see if they could work together, and no problem so far, so why not. Zone alarms is made to work with my router (where the copy came from [free from FutureShop]), but really I felt no need to install it. If I had my choice, I'd stick with Zone Alarms until I was sure that MS did a good job. But I'm sure it's ok, and hopefully it works at a more integrated level (hey if they're going to imbed it in their software, then truely embed it.

I didn't get a chance to muck with it last night, went out straight from work. But I will likely spend alot of this long-weekend's early hours playing with the computers.

True, it sucks they can't make a truely unified driver for all cards since the original Radeon (neither can nV, fanbois so relax), but that's why I think they should dedicate the main releases to the newest cards, and then 2-4 times a year release drivers for the older cards. Nice to see they at least released some old Win98 drivers for people despite there being no more certification from MS.

Maybe they'll add another version for older cards.

I'm pleased to say that everything went well. Thanx

Heh....I dont know <b>where</b> you find this stuff:)

And for some reason it just won't install the new Control Panel on the Dell.
I'd like to see you submit a bug report to ATi on that one

I'd stick with Zone Alarms until I was sure that MS did a good job.
But Zone Alarm makes my pc hang for around twenty seconds, every time I reboot(Grrrr)
I also understand that the MS firewall only blocks <b>incoming</b> traffic, and not out going. But that doesnt worry me much.

I didn't get a chance to muck with it last night, went out straight from work.
