My new Far Cry problem!

Ok, now after solving a RAM problem, the demo runs. Unfortunatly, it runs with flaws. I am running it at 1280x1024, with high everything except for texture filtering, which is medium. I don't know what the water is supposed to look like, but it doesn't look pretty, and there are render errors. Every once in a while some sand will turn purple (a block of it). I have the latest drivers for my 6800 GT, and it reported a temp of 57 degrees celsius after I quit out of the demo.

The pic of the error is here- [url[http://www.imagehosting.us/imagehosting/showimg.jpg/?id=4592[/url]

I have the latest nVidia drivers. Anyone know the problem, o r better yet, a solution? Could it be heat?

MSI K8N Neo Platinum
1 gb PC 3200 OCZ premier
Seagate 8 MB Cace 160 gb HDD
PNY 6800 GT
Antec Trucontrol 550 watt
WinXP home SP1

Looks a bit like it could be overheating.

What's your Case airflow like? Got any casefans, besides the one(s) in the PSU? Check what your case temps are....

You could also try UNDERclocking your card to see if that helps...

Have you tried any other games? It could just be a slight bug in the FarCry Demo. If your card runs DOOMIII without any visual problems, then it's probably just the FarCry Demo (doomIII is EXTREMELY taxing on the GPU)

That's the result of one of 3 things:

1- A driver bug (probably not this or we would have heard about it)

2- Overheating (quite possible, try running with the side of the case off and a fan blowing on your internals)

3- A bad GPU core (if #2 doesn't work, it's probably not a heat problem... so it's probably a bad core)

Thanks for the replies. I have a 120mm in, a 120mm out, and a pci slot cooler. I have tried other games, but not doom 3. It hasn't happened in Joint Ops, Battlefield Vietnam, or Aquamark. I am willing to put down 30 bucks for a 3rd party fan (would the VGA silencer be good?) if that would help it. Except would a different cooler void the warrenty?

A different cooler will probably void the warranty.

This is a bizarre problem, to be sure. If your card works well in Aquamark and Battlefield Vietnam, it's harder to accept that it may be a faulty GPU... unless Far Cry is taxing a specific shader that's problematic in the GPU, but that other games aren't using?

Still, it sounds like a driver issue to me, if it's only occuring in one game. I'd check the Far Cry forums for other 6800 users and see if anyone else has this problem.

Farcry demo + New geforce card = PLENTY OF RENDERING BUG
Farcry + 1.2 patch + New geforce card = Perfection

You should try the full version.

I can try rearranging some stuff in my case to help air flow. About a driver issue...the 61.77 drivers have been out for a while and Fary Cry is a benchmark (and popular game)...so if it had a problem I think we would have heard about it. Although, it could be an issue with the demo, and not the patched game 1.1.

Okay, just did some testing. While in Far Cry (playing) it is around 60 degrees C...is that normal?

Coylter is 100% correct, well except the 1.2 patch, 1.2 was withdrawn, but 1.1 will fix the problem.

FarCry came with my 6800, I installed it, and was less than impressed, I thought I might have gotten a bad card. The graphics were 1/2 what they are now, and I had all sorts of rendering issues. I believe I posted a very similar question here with the issue actually.

Anyways, I patched it to 1.1, and all the sudden the graphics were amazing, and the rendering bugs were gone.

And 60° C for the GPU is normal, actually that is cooler than what mine runs.

Oh, and here are a few of the rendering bugs I remember, missing textures (similar to your pic), when in water I got all sorts of weird textures on the bottom (and the water wasn't as real looking as it should have been), and the one that really drove me nuts, was anytime in a vehicle I would get black textures surrounding the vehicle (Land vehicles, the surrounding ground would be black). Any sound familar?

I had ALL of those problems! Thanks. As long as its not my card, I'm cool. Thank you guys!

Everyone else gets to celebrate, so "Oh Yeah!" that was my first post as an "Old Hand".

Anyways, I think you just need to buy FarCry, it is well worth the price, I haven't touched Doom3 since I bought it, I haven't stopped playing FarCry since I got it.
