Amusement911 has changed its auction format for vids by mandating a $100
pickup charge. It's listed in their auctions so beware if you find a game
in its final minutes for cheap and you think you're bidding on a deal (Like
I almost did!). His website says he's happy to meet you at the warehouse
for games but evidentally not if its via ebay.

He replied to me that he has to pay someone to open up the shop
sometimes....I say let know me know the non-sometimes and I'll meet you
there. :D

Yeah, that's just a shady "gotcha" tactic.. Nobody's making that kind
of money in this business anymore :)

Why do most arcade retailers have a "I'm doing you a favor, so bow down to
me when I let you visit and see my precious games" attitude?

It costs him $100 for someone to open the shop? Damn, I wish I was that
employee making that much money! :)

I would think that it would be far easier to have someone pickup
machines rather than endure the pain in the ass of shipping. Hell, as a
seller, I'd knock $25 off the final price if they were willing to pick
it up - whatever saves me the agony of crating and wraping.

Typical french/canadian attitude. I don't mean to be racists but Its a
given fact that people can be "clumps" like grapes. Most grapes are the
same group except for the large and the small grapes. I don't think
he understands how much he screwed himself just now .

So...you won't even allow a pickup on complete games?

You're a dick. You won't be busy for long with a "policy" like that,
because it is obvious you're trying to scam people. WTF would you charge
$100 to open your shop? Most people would love to have someone pick up
games instead of the hassle of shipping, especially across the border.

Jackass??? WTF? This guy's heritage is ripping off people. A C-note
for having to "open up the shop"? Come on, give me a freakin break.
Last time I checked, it didn't cost a hundred bucks to turn on the
lights. At this rate, this jerk will be losing business left and
right. Talk about a move in the wrong direction.....

Well maybe that's why it is amusement "911". It had better be an
emergency if you're gonna pay the $100 to meet the guy!

Actually, I used to work for a company that has much the same policy.
They have an "after hours pager" that one of the inside sales guys
would take home with them every night and on the weekend. They'd
alternate turns of who'd have the pager. If someone called with an
emergency parts order, the salesman would drive in to work and fill the
order. The after-hours charge was, you guessed it, $100. And in this
case, the employee actually does get the $$! But, this is for
industrial controls, not games. And the customers are Detroit auto
plants who could potentially lose millions if they can't get a crucial
part, so there are few complaints about the charge..

Wow...

I'd much rather meet someone at my shop than ship a game. It's much easier
and less hassle.

Hate to say it bud, but I wouldn't buy a thing from you after this post.

Callan.

P.S. The only thing you should be 'shy' about is your atrocious use of the
English language.

"This guy's heritage is ripping off people."

Yeah, I think that says it all. *rolls eyes*

Is anyone forcing you to do business with him? No. Then you're not
being ripped off (I say that assuming, of course, that this condition
wasn't tacked on to auctions or deals already agreed upon. That would
be a different story).

And you're right, he may lose a lot of business - but that's his call
to make.

Why not open the shop for free and just tack $100 on to your sale
prices?

Of course Denis can tak on $1000 if he wants to, as long as it is clear
up front.

But I thought that something like that was against Ebay's TOS. Since no
one mentioned it, I guess not.

The story doesn't pan out. How can you sell 100+ items a week on ebay,
yet never be at the shop? That kind of volume (with many being full
cabinets), would pretty much mean you would have to be at the shop on a
daily basis.

There are over 30 complete games listed right now, crating them, or
simply having people pick them up is a weeks worth of work by itself.

I had a transaction with you a few years ago which went VERY well. A few
times in the newsgroups, I read people saying negative comments about you,
but I did post a public reply in your favor.

With this attitude, I won't be so quick to reply positively or to buy from
you again.

$100 to open shop for a pick-up is just absurd. I can understand it more if
someone wants to do it at, say, 3am when no one is around. If they are
willing to be there during the hours the shop is normally open, charging
$100 for a pick-up is just wrong.

Like I said, if someone is being a fool and demanding a pick-up at an odd
time, then I can understand it. If it's normal business hours, then it's
just greed.

The exception to that that I have found is Greco Bros Amusements in Albany
NY - Tommy is a great guy, will take the time to deal with you for a $3
part, and is the soul of courtesy

I am actually thinking of buying from this guy, mainly because he has
alot of really nice games, and because his prices are pretty good as
well. I have talked to him on the phone a few times, and I was under
the impression that if I pick up the arcade from 7 p.m (or later) that
I wouldn't have to pay the $100 pick up charge (since that is when he
would normally be there anyway). Maybe I was wrong for assuming that,
but that is what I though.
The only problem is, he is probabley the only person within 3 hours of
me that has lots of Arcade games for good prices.
Does that Greco Brother Amusments sell Arcade games to the public for
good prices???

Greco is a full retail dealer - but what you get is clean, working, and he
stands behind games to some extent. He may also be open to cheap bulk deals
at least he used to be.
