I've selected the ATI Radeon 9200 as the video card for my new system. I'm not a gamer and all I want is a fast card that will produce sharp, crisp text and images for office applications, digital photography and a little digital video editing. Is that card a good choice? Can you recommend something better that will fit those needs. Many thanks.

Honestly just for office tasks and the other stuff, even on-board video could do that. Which 9200 did you settle on exactly, and what kind of price are you getting on it? But to answer your question, that is enough for what you are looking for, it you tell me what your price range, maybe I could make a suggestion. (Of course that is a maybe, as there aren't many card choices down in the 9200 price range.)

Thanks. Price really isn't an issue here since I'm building a pretty hot machine (Athlon 64 3200+, 1 Gb RAM, Raptor, etc.). I looked at the high-end graphics cards (9800PRO, 6800, etc.) but I'm not a gamer and I just don't need the heat, noise and power consumption. I want sharp text and accurate digital images, and to do some digital video capturing and editing. It may be sacrilege around here, but I've never played Doom or Far Cry.

You might want to look into something along the line of a ati 9600 all in wonder. It will give you directx 9 if you should ever need it, video capture, tv tuner/recorder.
You also may look into a Matrox card as there well nown for their 2d graphics, clarity and such.

What?

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

I looked at the 9600XT All-In-Wonder because I want a video capture card too, but it has a lower refresh rate at max resolution than the non-AIW cards. (60Hz at 2048x1536 for the AIW vs 85Hz for the 9200 or non-AIW 9600XT). I want the high res and refresh for digital photography.

The 9200 is an excellent card for digital editing.

Any add on card is better than onboard even for 2D work. You wont be using system ram for it, plus I notice an incredible quality difference between my integrated i865 extreme 2 graphics versus any radeon I own (7000, 9200, 9600, 9800)

Also keep in mind that the faster your video card is, the faster the whole system will be, in everything. Even though the gains aren't huge, it is something to think about.
