Hi all.. I was amazed when I first installed my card... no noise, no heat, insane framerates and benchmark scores, beautiful image quality.. I have completed Far Cry three times with my old 9700, and loading that on my new card was another jaw-dropping image-adventure ;) BUT... no matter what game i play (dx8/dx9/OpenGL) whenever I come up close to a "solid" object (ie. wall, stone, tree, car, computer, etc.) the image gets real blurry and has jagged edges. From a medium distance it looks great, though. I did not have that problem with my Ati card. My friend's 5900XT does the same thing, his old 9200SE did not, my old GF2Pro I can't recall if it did. It is really p*ssing me off, since I was certain that since nVidia finally were side-by-side, performance wise, with Ati they gave up on all the "optimizations and tweaks" and delivered a true and honest image quality. That is what all the reviewers and reviews said/showed. This was the only reason I went to get an nVidia card again.. did they f*ck me over? or might it be a driver issue?

I am running most games@1152*864 or 1280*960 with 8 or16anisio and a few games (ie. doom3 or old games) with FSAA. Currently running the latest official drivers

Its because the game IS like this...or you didnt put the texture res to maximum. ... BTW the picture are so smalllll...

you sure about that?! The image in extremely blurry closeup! Each time I get quite or real close to something it's like that, and no; of course I maxed out the details, it is like that in ALL games, remember? :)

if you find the pictures smalllll... you might want to consider downloading them ;)

But you might be right and nVidia may just suck. Or their very basic set of driverfeaturesettings lacks the complexity of e.g. rivatuner. Perhaps there are settings in that program that could help? There are no ways of controlling Mip Mapping or Filtering in the regular set of drivers, for instance.

I would hate having to tweak my card majorly and do 500 workarounds to make sure nothing was like nvidia intended, JUST to have acceptable imagequality. You wouldn't want to know what we pay for hardware over here..

you can't right-click-save-picture-as?

Far CRY defaults to PS 1.1 with partial precision even on the GF6800s with FarCry patch 1.1.

Moving to patch 1.2 should fix that.

Also try moving to updated drivers, with the recall of the 1.2 patch perhaps nV incorporated something in the mix.

BTW, coylter nice job asking for pics but having nothing to give hime in return.

Hi TGGA :)

I am running Far Cry v1.2, i got it before they pulled it. The only issue i have had is one level that will not load with it, i just remove it whenever going through it. (Regulator, i think). I am certain that PS2.0 at least is enabled, because Far Cry looks absolutely stunning with the new card (check the 1st screenshot and you'll know what i mean ;)

anyways, I am running F.W. v61.77, might there be a better beta driver out there? I have seen numorous on guru3d, etc. ranging up to v66.31. If you read my post in the drivers section you'll know why i haven't just gone through all of them, but stuck to the official-site release :)

thanks for your help

If you are running patch 1.2 and textures are set to very high then there's little else you could do.

The latest betas I had seen benchmarked and tested were 65.xx, but the offiial ones from their site should fix the basic partial precision issues, especially with patch 1.2 which really should do it on it's own.

Unfortunately beyond that you may have to check Crytek's FarCry forums, there may be a better answer there.

Allright.. thanks

I will do that

But have you, or any others, experienced something similar with nV in any game, really?

Yeah sure. Playing D3 on my laptop everything's F'in blurry, of course that might have something to do with it running at 640x480 in low detail on a 1024x768 LCD.

BTW, what does Native resolution mean?

Anywhoo, both companies have their issues with different games. But usually the FartCry issues are based around the nV FX cards (and the 9000/9200 for ATI).

Notice that <A HREF="http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/digest3d/0804/itogi-video-gallery-bugs.html" target="_new">Digit-Life recommends the 66.00 betas and patch 1.2</A>, but also mention that the GF6800s are OK.

You must know that if you zoom on any texture on any game...it will be blurry, Texte resolution isnt 100000000000x100000000000

TGGA , i did answer after he posted the picture....i also said i could not do much with pics that small...

Click <font color=blue><A HREF="http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/you.html" target="_new">HERE</A></font color=blue> if you realy are an <font color=red>idiot</font color=red>.

"<i>Its because the game IS like this</i>"

This doesn't constitute much of an answer when you make him go through the effort of posting a pic regardless of size.

Because he's saying that the game doesn't look like what it looked like on his old card or on a friend's card. So 'the game is like this' doesn't address that at all and actually ignores the fact that it used to be an issue, but shouldn't be now, as it's supposed to be fixed.

So beyond 'well that's life', did you have anything that actually addresses the question of why there's a difference? I gave him some possible reasons, but I admit beyond what's been said I don't know, but If he came forth with a 1920x1200 (based on his apparent aspect ratios) image and we still saw the zoomed issue, then what would your answer be? I don't see how the size of the image matters that much especially when you have the zoomed section. Right now his links are inaccessible, but I doubt new pics would've changed much.

I can see your desire to avoid fanboism, if that's what it was, but if you don't have an answer if it's a true issue, then what?

BTW, noticed your updates, they too have since crashed.

Try <A HREF="http://www.imageshack.us/index.php" target="_new">ImageShack</A>, it allows big files and keeps them up for about 72hrs.

Well i played tons of game.....and i also played farcry....and it <b><i>DO LOOK LIKE THIS WHEN YOU ZOOM ON SOMETHING</b></i>. :p

EDIT having seen bigger picture: Well finally i can see something...well did you try the 66.xx drivers? Run dxdiag and see if there are any errors. Go to you nv setting and put texture preference to quality. I'v never seen a bug like this...its rather strange and do look bad.

Dont get mad, your 6800 should not do this.
