Hi All.
Just bought a new PC.
Didn't think i would ever buy another pc and not build one.
But i did and don't laugh please.
I bought a Gateway.
I have a question on the video card.
I comes with a ATI X300 SE 128 PCI express video card.
What is this comperable to 9800? Or below.
It does have 128 megs of ram and a pci express so it seems better than my geforce 3 64meg card.
But here is my new system specs.
3.2 gig P4.
200gig sata hardrive
128 meg ATI X300 SE pcie vid card.
1 gig of ram i think 3200.

How bad is this video card?
Will i be able to run new games like doom3 and HL2 and ut2004 and such??
Or will i have to spend 500 more bucks on a good videocard.
And wait anyway since i dont have a agp port and its pcie.

Thanks

And follow the benchmark link.

It's a LONG way away from the R9800.

If you want to play games with high detail and big resolutions, I suggest waiting for the GF6600GT and X700PRO/XT to come out. They are Around $200 US and will play all of those games with better levels than an R9800XT in most situations.

It's comparable to a 9600SE, which is 1/2 of a 9600 Pro, which is 2/3 of a 9800 Pro performance wise. So like 2/6, which reduces to 1/3, of a 9800 Pro.

Doom3? Maybe at 640x480 with half the features turned off.

I'm almost certain Gateway offered a relatively inexpensive upgrade at the time of purchase, maybe you should have looked before you lept.

There are decent cards available for $300 which put the 9800 Pro to shame in Doom3.

I think it came with a 200 watt powersupply.
So i think i will be buying a x800 pci express when they eventually come out with a 350 or bigger watt powersupply.
Luckily i bought it at compusa and they will put it all in for free without voiding the 3 year hardware warranty i bought.
Thanks all.
