Hi!
I have a problem where other computers on my home LAN can't connect to a
network share I've created on my main file server. All machines are
running XP Home SP1. A message saying "Can't connect to X:\, Access is
Denied" pops up when trying to access the network share.
I have several other network shares operating properly and are
accesible, just this new one is a problem. I *can* access the network
share if I map a drive to it on the local computer. I've rebooted all
machines, tried rsharing it, etc., etc., to no avail.
The event log shows several instances of this: "The redirector failed
to determine the connection type.", I believe they occur whenever the
other machines try to connect. I looked it up and Microsoft 's site
says it is common and can safely be ignored and that it only occurs the
first time the share is accessed. That may be, but it is happening more
than just once.
For the sake of completeness, I will mention this share accesses a new
hard drive I recently put in. It is 200GB.
Finally, I also noticed late yesterday that there is an error in the
event log that claims "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt
and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume G:". I have
run chkdsk and scandisk and no errors are found. The drive shows up as
healthy in disk manager. The drive contains a lot of media files, and
there do not appear to be any problems with the data.
I'm stumped, any advice will be appreciated.
TIA.
