connecting 2 lcd monitors to 1 computer

hello. i have a fully-loaded area-51 gaming machine and i recently purchased
a 32" zenith lcd tv. my machine has the capability to have 1 lcd connected to
a vga hook-up, and 1 lcd connected thru a dvi hook-up.at first, only the
dvi{32" lcd) would come on when i turned on the comp.the next day, only the
nec 17" lcd would turn on when the comp was on. i like listening to tv while
on the comp(not much of a music person), but i am a gamer, so i would like to
play pc games on the 32" lcd. how do i label my primary and secondary lcd's?
because enabling or disabling one or the other doesn't seem to work properly.
