I’ve just upgraded my whole PC and one of my main purchases was the MSI RX9800 PRO-TD128. On receiving it I noticed something strange about the box. A series of stickers had been added to change the name of the card from RX9800 Pro Plus TD128 to RX9800 PRO-TD128. I didn’t think this was significant (maybe a repaired misprint) until I loaded the card and it came up as a RX9800 Pro Plus. I next upgraded to the latest catalyst drivers and these informed me that the card is a R9800 XT. Has anyone else had this happen? I know XT is better than Pro but is this just a case of mistaken identity by the software (could it damage the card?) or have I just got a bargain? MSI do not make a card called RX9800 PRO Plus so have I got something really unusual? Is there any way I can look at the core and memory speeds to see if the card is running at Pro or XT speeds? Would it be best to stick to the MSI drivers?

3D Mark 2003 tests
Before new catalyst drivers 5125 3DMarks
After new catalyst drivers 6110 3DMarks

Quite a jump! Is this normal?

PS what do you think of my new system?

Google ATiTool to find out your clocks.

You probablt have an r360 core instead of a r350 core and when you updated the drivers it picked it up as a 9800xt. With a jump like that it looks like it changed the clock speeds as well.
Kind of odd though if that's the case. I thought you would need a xt bios flash for that to occur.

Thanks
ATItool shows my default core to be 378 MHz and memory is 338 MHz. A standard R9800 Pro: core 380 MHz, memory 340 MHz. So it’s a Pro then, if I'm reading this tool right.
Is a 3D Mark 2003 result of 6110 reasonable for this type of card in this type of system?

A Pro with those scores is amazing! You might have the XT Bios (tighter mem timings) at Pro clocks...
