Or monitor signal loss error... but it seems to be video driver related. For me, this really only happens with NWN, but when I have friends over, that is what I like to play. Somewhere between 30 to 90 minutes, my monitor looses signal. I am wondering if I really need to get an XT bios to work if I am running my BBA 9800 Pro at XT speeds. But I have not had this problem with either Farcry or Doom3, and they must push my system harder than NWN..

I am not alone with this problem. When I do get error messages, they all point to a driver problem. I know I was having this problem with 4.7 and now 4.9

Unforunately you may be somewhat alone around here.

I know that there are a few NWN issues out there, some have been fixed, but really someone who plays it would be best to answer, and that may still be limited here. I would only be guessing.

The guys at reage really are the ones who are the best for this because they are primarily Radeon users, primarily R9800/9700 series useres, and with that depth, there's bound to be a bunch who play NWN on a regular basis.

Unfortunately you may come up dry here. Morrowind is my game, NWN didn't get me, so I only know what I read, and alot of the early issues gone, not sure about this one.

I installed the old 3.7s last night and was still having problems... Should I assume that because FarCry and Doom3, and all the 3DMarks, do not crash on me that it is not an overclocking problem that is causing NWNs to crash? Or could there be something in NWNs that pushes some component in a way that is not pushed in Doom3 and FarCry?

Definately sounds like a game issue. Are you sure you wiped all the driver crap out? Uninstall everything (the Ati driver and control panel), reboot in safe mode, download Driver Cleaner, clean it all out, then reboot and install the Cats. I had sucess with 4.6 for awhile, or you can try the new omega drivers which are very very nice (<A HREF="http://omegadrivers.net" target="_new">http://omegadrivers.net</A> based off the new 8.07 betas)

Running at stock speeds can help too as some games have issues with OCed cards. Try turning Fast Writes off, etc etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure your cards physically ok, if it's runs D3 I doubt that NWN is stressing it more than that.

I know that there were alot of issue with Catalysts and NWN, and there may still be some. Unfortunately that doesn't help much, but I don't know what to tell you. I know alot of people who'd mention it to Terry Makedon (Catalyst Maker) when new drivers came out, and so I doubt that there's much more you can do. I really think that like me you wil have to cope with some level of instability in your game. I know my source is XP for Morrowind, but yours may or might not be ATI drivers. Depending on how commited you are you could spot check every item (that's what I did before reading on the Elder Scrolls forum that it was a known XP issue), but believe me, it sucks doing that and you might not get a definitive answer even then, thinking that a MOBO BIOS upgrade did it, then 2 weeks later crash again.

I went back to the Omega 4.9s... I have been trying several different things each time it crashes... and I just got this error message...

"The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation.

Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update."

Unable to complete a drawing operation... I have seen this one before...

I am pretty much back into playing Neverwinter Nights full force now, as much as I can with two young children...

And as much as I wanted to blaim ATI drivers, they again proved solid... currently using 4.9s... NWNs does seem to push my chipset in a way that FarCry never did... lowering my bus speed to 200MHz (I puched up the multiplier to 12) and getting a solid install of SP2 did the trick for me... no crashes in a solid weekend playing with a friend, and now I am hooked and back online playing again in the fan made persistant worlds...

I tried to install SP2 when it first came out, and I could not get back into windows, even in safe mode... I did a critical rebuild or something from the install CD, but then I was back to no service packs or windows updates... I ended up being very clever or not clever, because the SP2 uninstall folder was still there...

Even though SP2 was not installed, I uninstalled it, and it brought me back to a restore point just before I attempted to install SP2... but that weird process might have left me #ucked up.

I am not sure why it worked last week, but I just got sick of troubleshooting and attempted to install it again... maybe my plan was to crash my system and have to reformat... but it worked... my bus speed was back to 200MHz at the time...

For those who care, the FPS issue seems fixed to me with NWN.... there is a big range, but I am always above 40, often above 60, and there were times out in a desert at night when I was in the 120s. And it looks so crisp at those frame rates. So I have been getting great framerates, especially online, and even connected at 46.6 with my dial up modem... I have been running two computers playing online at more than playable speeds with my 46.6 connection...
