IT's not bad information because he says it is, it's bad information because this field/industry changes so fast. I subscribe to Maximum PC, and they do good investigations, but by the time they usually print somethng new drivers have come and gone, optimizations have been discovered and dropped, and games have been patched and benchies discounted/updated.
Nothing showed that better than the FX line, which they were still pimping the FX5950 right up until the end, and yet with the launch of the GF6800 they said everyone was wanting to forget the crummy FX series (except for them right up until this spring's top rig, right before GF6800 launch).
MaxPC tries it's hardest, but as a source of information I give it a 6, THG, [H], Digit-Life, 3Dcentre, X-bitLabs and TheTechReport all get the Kick-A$$ awards for up to date news and info. MaxPC's publishing cycle is too slow, and even their prview of the GF6800 (which leaked to the web) was a fluff piece set-up by nV, and the only thing of value was some basic specs and some mediocre photos.
They also have this tendancey, as has been said, of picking just a few benchies, which don't reflect the whole picture. That's why [H] et al are far better, because not only do they try and do it right the first time, but if there is something to add, they make sure that get's done quickly too, not 2 issues later when everyone's forgotten what the initial X800/GF6800 got in Quake 3 at 640x480. And posting individual 3Dmk03 game tests as if they were separate benchmarks is just silly.
Even their Website is lacking, CPU has a far more serious website.
The DOG section and Ask the Doctor are both great, but they aren't timely so they can be done right.
