Intel 82830M reverting to low res on bootup

My Sharp MV12-W notebook is a useful if flaky beast. Every time I boot up now, I keep getting a switch back to a low res mode with no error popup. Manually switching back to 1024x768 works fine but it's a pain. Recently I've also been occasionally getting the following failiure:

BCCode : ea BCP1 : 82EE9020 BCP2 : 82CB1840 BCP3 : 82ACFD30
BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 256_1

I'm using the latest driver from Intel and I am using Win XP Pro SP1.

Does anyone know of this problem and do you think WinXP SP2 will solve this problem ? Sharp is providing no support so I don't think I can get an updated BIOS.

google the error code, maybe just a part of it. I came accross 1-2 forums with same question. Maybe that helps. Alls in google.
