Hello.........I have a Gainward Ti4200 G-4 card and I'm trying to update the driver. First....I have no anti-virus software, or anything else running. I deleted my old driver (4230)from add/remove programs. I downloaded a newer driver from the Nvidia website, because Gainward ended their driver updates for this card at version 4230. It unpacked the files to the default folder. I then went to my display adapter in 'System Properties' and selected 'update driver'. I point it to the folder where the newer driver, etc. is, but it won't install.........the update wizard says that an appropriate driver cannot be found. Any ideas to try??? At the moment, it looks like the generic Microsoft driver is installed (version 2980). Thanks....

Why do you have to go through all that? When you download drivers from the Nvidia website, they is an executable included that automatically installs everything you need. Do this not work?

Yeah you don't want to point it to the driver. You want to run the self-extracting / self-installing driver package from their website. BTW, the latest drivers aren't always the best for the GF4ti series, you may want to check with some of the GF4ti vets here to find out which one runs best (likely not anything from the 6x.xx series, and probably not even the 5x.xx series drivers).

Yeah TheGreatGrapeApe has a great point (usual for him), you would be best to use the 44.30 drivers, if I rememeber correctly. The newer drivers will still work but they are more aimed towards the newer cards.

That's just it.......I downloaded the executable from the Nvidia site........version 53.04 with WDM because it's a VIVO card. I ran the file.........it un-packed the files (and I thought installed), and I re-booted as instructed. I saw that the driver version was "Microsoft Corp. 29.80". I thought this was a bit strange, but figured I would run the setup.exe file again from where the files were unpacked..... C:Nvidia\Win2kXP\5304. The splash screen came up and indicated the driver was being installed. On re-boot, I still have the same 29.80 version installed. I also checked 'Sound\Video\Game Controllers' in System Properties, and no WDM items are installed/listed. I've installed drivers many times, and yes, it's routine, but this has never happened.

.........I downloaded/installed version 44.03.....and no problem. I'm not sure what the problem is with the newer driver version. Has anyone experienced and/or heard of this happening? Thanks for the response...
