How much of an improvement....

Hi

I'm considering upgrading my current card, which is a Sapphire 9800Pro 128mb, to a BBA X800XT which I've found for £310. I use my computer 99% of the time for games (mostly Flightsim). Could anyone advise if I will lose much performance with my current motherboard/CPUor will I see big gains?

Asus P4G8X Deluxe / P4 2.66Ghz / 1Gb memory

Thanks in advance
Mataus

You'd only see a real big improvement if you play at resolutions higher than 1024x768, or if you use high levels of AA/AF.

If you play at 1024x768, I wouldn't bother. Not worth the money.

I play in 1280x1024 with AA on. Would the extra speed and memory not help give a better fluidness to games. I would like a minimum frame rate of 25fps without it dipping all the time.

If you're using 4xAA at 1024x768, yes you'll notice the difference, but it won't be mind-blowing.

However, the X800 will let you play at a higher resolution with 4xAA and still get a great framerate. So if that's a high priority to you, and you have wads of cash lying around, you could do worse I guess.

Me, I don't think I'd bother just yet.
