Here's the thread/article, but to see the countdaown clock follow their link or visit the FM front page. However be advised you must turn OFF your pop-up blocker to get the countdown clock to appear. Remember to turn it back on afterwards.

Hmmn, only a day away. I guess i'll be joining 200 million other people and hunting for a fast or working mirror this weekend. As if I need to rush and see my 9800 Pro get defeated.

Great, after I ran 3DMark03 for the first time on my TI4400, I finally realized I needed to upgrade. Now I have had a 6800 for a few months now, hopefully 3DMark05 doesn't make me want to upgrade my 6800.

Guess I ought to stop "playing" those benchmarking games.

There not much fun anyways.

How do you figure a day left? It changes the first letter every 27.5ish hrs. First was O for only a few hrs, now W will be up for another 24ish, then some other stuff. '03's countdown timer was two weeks, I expect much of the same from this. Anyway, why would FM release it on a Sat night EST?? It'll be way past midnight in the UK and even worse elsewhere in Europe.

Oh, and Saturday night did seem very strange. Guess I thought it was perfect timing for me and since life revolves around me, FM was doing me a favor.

Those are some seriously amazing screenshots. Almost too virtual to seem true in 3D animation.

I do ponder at the performance to be expected though!

Amazing though, every year we see new graphics screenshots for upcoming titles and get all excited about how amazing they are, yet one year later they have nothing special. CoD surprised me so much last year (or was it 2 years ago, at the GDC I believe), yet now I see its graphics as nothing new. I wonder if these graphics in a year will sound like nothing to us again. Weird to say at the moment, but who knows.

Well if game designers can come up with more stuff like this:

IIRC...the 6600GT got a 1500ish in the beta. Since then they've added another game test (to make it four), so maybe 2000 points now? Of course, we won't know the conversion from FPS to points. But I'll be happy if my 9800Pro can do better than my Ti4400 did in 3DMark03. All those images were also done at 16x12 with 8/6AA and 16AF, which is painstakingly slow in 03, so just imagine 05.

One rumor that was floating around earlier (that hasn't made it to the official fact list) is that 05 is not nearly as GPU dependent as 03 is!! This of course just means that the crazy OCers will just separate themselves even more, but at least it'll give a slightly more realistic impression of total system performance (why they want to compete with their own PCMark is beyond me, but whatever, we benefit).

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

I didn't imagine they would be this fast at releasing a new 3DMark version though. 3DMark 01 stayed for a good 2 years. The 03 has been here for a year and little IIRC.

Also, no card to my recollection has reached around 15000 to justify a new version, really.

I don't think that's wise. GPU dependancy is more important here IMO as we are testing the graphics card's capabilities in incredibly stressful situations. It's like testing with SiSoft Sandra's memory bandwidth and allowing CPU speed to affect it more. But bah, who knows.

That is one wicked video.

I had seen the mansion one, but didn't notice there was a video for the nature pics previously seen.

Damn nice, I have to say.

And they're right about HDR's blind feel it can provide. I used to think it's a pointless technology of DX9, considering CS Source would do HDR perfectly with DX7 cards, and the difference with DX9 and 7 was very negligible.
Now I can see what seems to indeed be a result of a true HDR DX9 effect. As shown and stated in the mansion video and experienced here, seeing HDR lighting with a strong scene contrast will make you feel a bit blind for a few seconds afterwards when looking at something else that is dark or more obscure. Very nice effect. (though IMO it's a bit exaggerated when looking at the sky in that demo. It's as if the sun was 5KM away from Earth or something  )
