Which is better? I gotta a friend who's got both. He's getting rid of them for like nothing. So price is not the issue. So which do I take?(getting both is not an option. But they are the SAME price.) With money out of the picture, which is better?

5900 is a weak top end card for it's day, compared to a top midrange card in the 9600XT, should offer similar performance, but the 9600XT would draw much less power and produce much less heat.

5900 is better if you use antialiassing, the 9600 is probably slightly better with directX 9 titles.

Depends on what you want to play.

If you're playing older titles, the 5900 is probably better. The 5900 is also better when using high levels of AA.

If you want to play the newest shader-heavy titles, the 9600XT is better. (the exception being new games based on the Doom3 engine - the 5900 should do better there).

Personally I'd go with the 9600XT because I trust the 9600 series more than I trust the GeforceFX series. The GeforceFX's are based on some goofy architecture.

thanks for the imput. I am currently playing Rome: Total War, Far Cry, Sims 2, and Star Wars Battlefront to name a few. I don't see myself playing many older titles and I tried doom3 and just wasn't that impressed. So I'll probably take your advice and stick with the 9600Xt.
