L'INQ INQ spilt the beans again (go figure). Anyway, top of the line systems (6800U, namely) will get 5000 while the X800XT will get ~4500. The next driver release should bump that up to ~5800!!! I suspect a patch for '05 to be coming any day now, too  . As I titled it, the 9600XT does best the 5900U. Anyway, NDA ends 9AM EST tomorrow, when I'm also sure it will be up for download (although a VERY slow one I would imagine) and purchase. It will be larger than '03's download, but should still fit onto a CD. Anyway, that's all the new news I've collected from FM and INQ about '05.

BTW 9800PRO owners...it does look like you will do better on '05 than Ti4600 owners did on '03!

This relates to what Crashman, Cleeve and I have been saying about the R9600series vs FX5900 series, older titles no competition, however the underlying pixel shader power still favours the R9600.

Interesting about the drivers bringing such a boost. I wonder if FM will accept scores from nV with non WHQL drivers? I can't wait to see their full white paper on the new benchmark including whether they address optimizations, and what the benchmark is meant to stress this time around.
If this is with the 5x.xx drivers then it wouldn't surprise me that it would be slower, but if this is BETA or the 'current' drivers on nV's driver page, then this is very surprising.

Once it's available to download tomorrow I will use the fat-pipe at work to grab it and burn it. Hopefully FM is ready for me.

What drivers from nV are WHQL?? The problem is that the new drivers are all great for the NV4*, but NV3* cards are all failing WHQL certification with the new drivers...

As for the fat-pipe you have...I have one too, but it's not gonna mean a damn thing. Finding a fast mirror will be a bitch...so many people will be dling it.

Don't take the 9600's performance in '05 as the only reason for purchase....the 5900XT really does give it fits in nearly everygame (but with reduced image quality across the board). Anyway, this just makes your decision that much tougher, sorry.

About how much will the 9600XT score in '05? 1,500?

Well, when is th 5900Xt priced equal to 9600Xt either? The 5900 just doesn't compete because it's priced with the 9700P, 9800, and 9800P.

Anyway, nice link there. Surprises me to see, but that must mean my 9800Pro will do better than 1500. Yeah!!!

Also, look at that boost for The X800XT with the coming drivers. Ati managed to find more 3dmarks in a driver upgrade than the FX5950 can score total. LOL, that strikes me as funny. But for those who spent $350 on a FX5950, I guess it isn't too comical. I Just hope ATI won't try to push any floptimizations behind our back.

But remember in the [H] reviews the FX5900XT and R9600XT were neck and neck in FartCry, and CallOfDuty at same RES/AA/AF settings, and that's despite the IQ issues. Even in the Flight Sim and UT2K4 tests it barely pulls ahead with about +/- 1-2fps, and in TombRaider they have equal FPS, but the FX5900XT does get to turn on AA/AF as you mention, but that's hardly giving anything fits. Really it is closer, and newer games fair even worse (except D3 of course).

Now the FX5900(standard) does better than the XT and would in many cases pull further ahead, but still there are serious issue when it comes to PS power. I am very interested in seeing whether they break down specific power in the new 3Dmark, as they said they would de getting rid of the smaller individual test in lieu of the big GameTest models. I hope they are still able to provide more than just 4 FPS results, as that wouldn't be as good IMO. I'd like to see fill-rates etc.

Anywhoo, looks like there'll be another batch of whiney Bungholio watchers to complain about their cards again. Can't wait to see how the Laptop does.

Yeah it works, but there are major culling issues and visual junk.

I'm heading home now (as I mentioned in reply to your classic posts) and I'll load it up and see if I can screenie it and post it. It can be played, but not great really. The benchies with low and 640x480 were abysmal @ ~8fps.

I couldn't reproduce the artifacting outside this time.

Anywhooo here's a few screenies of gameplay (fraps showing me avg of about 12-14 fps with maxes around 24fps all at 640x480-LOW);

View of the door without moving, no zombie (7FPS)

Next Zombie (6FPS) another room

So as you can see not very smooth gameplay (always drops to single digits for fighting). I haven't tried turning off shadows and such yet. Still too busy to tweak really.

As for other games I've got on here, NHL 2001, Morrowind, and MechWarrior 2.

I played 3/4 of D3 with my 9600XT. Got around 25-35 FPS during normal gameplay maybe down to ~20 FPS during fights. I ran like 640*480 and 800*600.
