Please I am in dire need of help. I have a new asus v9999 ultra that i got off www.newegg.com and I think its my worst investment to date. I installed it and downloaded the new drivers and i have a list of problems that I hope someone can help me with before i give up and return the damn thing. SO the (1) first problem with this card is that there is no gpu bios post when i first start up my computer. (2) Secondly the performance of this card is not all its cracked up to be unless this one is a faulty card, in the counter strik: source stress test i scored 106.72 fps with 6x aa and 4x antistropic filtering. i scored even higheron no aa and no filter settings, HOWEVER during normal gameplay it averages at 40 fps with 1204x1040 res no vsync. Why is this performance so low. ALso in doom 3 the performance is just horrendous on 1240x1040 i get around 50fps with no aa or af and 20-30 with average aa and af. ALSO with farcry i get strange graphical errors with the shading with no sm3(havent installed it yet). Keep in mind this is on a fresh install of xp pro sp1, I did experience worse performance on the cs source stress test and better performance in doom and farcry but we are talking a few fps in sp2. My other graphical settings are 128mb agp aperture and i uped the voltage to the gfx by one setting I think it was 1.5v and i changed it to 1.6v. Last thing the card quite obvioulsy crashed several times. the default clocks of this asus card are 425 core and 1100mhz ddr3 mem. Last thing for real, this card is watercooled on a Danger Den nv 40 block! If anyone can help me id be forever in your debt, if not im going to return it and get an evga or gainward. THANKS ALL!

compare ur results to
<A HREF="http://https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/phora/web/lastscan.jpg" target="_new">http://https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/phora/web/lastscan.jpg</A>
and post.

(1) whats that gotto do with anything. It might be there and you not seeing it bcos must be scrolling off too fast.

(2) Source is still beta. Dont rest perf stuff on it. But in that, there might be a FPS cap limit or something bcos u r playing against many others who dont have 6800s.

EVERY gfx card has a bios post, its not scrolling too fast that i dont see it its simply not there. Plus what you said doesnt make sense, there would not be a fps cap man, the fps are a result of ones own system, it has nothing to do with anyone else on the server, that doesnt even make sense, thanks for the advice tho

I understand that, but i dont recall ever holding that responsible for slowing my system down, i just think its a defect of the card or something...

Ok first of all i unlocked coolbits in the nvida registry and ran an optimal performance scan, it set my speeds to: gpu=447 and ddr3=1.14. I then ran 3 consecutive doom 3 precach demo1 and got the average of 64.9fps in 1280x1024 no aa. Then i ran the res at 1024x768 same settings and got 63.2fps

Then i reset the clock speeds to default (gpu=400 ddr3=1.11) and ran the same testing scoring 1280x1024=58.0fps and 1024x768=67.6fps

These results do not seem to follow any trends or basic rules to overclocking. However in running the precached time demo it did result in better performance.

Did you flash the AGP BIOS? Not sure if Asus has made thier own new BIOS yet but Nvidia has new BIOS for the Ultra cards. I don't own one, but my friend told me the new BIOS from Nvidia is more stable. Everyone I have talked to with any brand of 6800 Ultra cards have said that they are not very stable and seem to be pre-mature release. I would have got a 6800GT from Gainward If I had the money to spend.

Crap, all the good ones are already taken.

Your cpu might not have enough horsepower to really handle the card. I know I've said this a few times already but with my 2500 I was only getting similar results now with my new CPU in the time demo it's over 100 fps 8x FA, 8x AA(I guess it doesn't support 8x AA but it's set to it anyway), @1024x768.

What are your aquamark and 3dmark03/05 scores??

The high end cards need a set up that can really push them. Try the results at higher resolution and compare them to benchmarks on the web for Doom. I guess at higher resolutions the graphics card kicks in a little more. Try 8x,8x @ 1600x1200. If you still get 40+ fps your card should be working fine.

Thanks for the advice, i never even thought about flashing the bios, that could fix the no bios post upon boot up too. I ran coolbits and it oced my card to 447 core, and it runs doom 3 amazingly now just not stable at all. THanks alot guys!

Those numbers still don't sound right to me- 63 FPS at 1024x768 on a 6800 Ultra? Maybe it's normal, I dunno. The highest numbers I saw of course were on AMD 64s, so I guess you have a performance hit because of the Athlon XP. Either way, that's still really good performance, but you shouldn't have to OC a 6800U in order to get good performance in Doom.

Most of my newer systems are so fast you can't see the card BIOS post because the monitor doesn't come on fast enough. And that's with the monitor already warmed up!

I have an update that has been posted all over uk forums for anyone with a 6800 Ultra card, turns out the stock bios is the cause of many performance problems. read this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17272276 IF ANYONE CAN FIND WHERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS NOXIS GUY'S BIOS PLEASE POST IN THIS THREAD. My experience with my 6800U is just awful.

Update to this problem I found where to download the most optimal bios flash for your 6800U

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17261579&highlight=6800u+BIOS

It sets the vcore to 450, ddr3 to 1200 and volts +1,

WARNING THIS DOES VOID ALL WARRENTIES AND NOONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CARD DESTRUCTION BUT YOURSELF!!!!

However just about ` percent of 6800U owners experience problems with thier cards due to shotty bios, i ran all versions of 3dmark01se to 05 and experienced a %-0 increase on default settings in just game benchmarks. Try it out for yourself.

You shouldn't be forced to do anything that will void the warranty, especially a brand-new $550 dollar video card. You shouldn't have to flash the BIOS to fix the problem- if the BIOS is faulty then it's up to Asus to address the problem rather than you having to void the warranty.

Athlon 2500+, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev2, 768Mb Corsair XMS 5-2-2-2.5, Sapphire 9800 Pro 128Mb, Seagate SATA 80Gb, Fortron-Source FSP400-60PFN

Actually some GF6800U and GT came with faulty BIOS and nV recommended you flash them as the fix. You shouldn't have to but sometimes you do. I thought the problem was limitied to the 61.71 drivers, but maybe not. I posted something about this a little while back, I'll see if I can find it and post it later.

If the new BIOS fix is supported by Asus then yeah there's no problem, otherwise I would definitely have them replace it.

Athlon 2500+, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev2, 768Mb Corsair XMS 5-2-2-2.5, Sapphire 9800 Pro 128Mb, Seagate SATA 80Gb, Fortron-Source FSP400-60PFN

Well after a little looking it appears that the faulty BIOS is nV BIOS #: 5.40.02.10.15, and only now are dealers offering updated versions.

The question is do you want to wait for the update, or be proactive? I guess it really dpeends. Some people use Beta drivers some people don't. And it'll be the same in this case. But if your bios isn't that particular version you should be ok.

BTW does anyone know why the Asus 6800GT only has 128Mb of memory? It costs the same as the 256 models.
