I recently purachased on of these off ebay as unested. I have the Unipak 2
plugged into it and when it turns on it runs the self test without any
errors. It seems to respond to commands ok, goes into remote (CRC) mode,
etc. I built the serial cable as listed here:
http://www.leopardcats.com/dio/dataioserial.htm and tripple checked all my
serial port settings to make sure they match the programmer. I opened it up
to make sure everything was seated properly and everything looked fine...
except... The filter board (as it is labelled) has some burn marks on it.
Here are some pictures:

Here are my questions:
1. If this filter board was faulty would the data IO power up and respond to
commands?
2. Is it possible the filter board is working fine but has some char marks
from heat and maybe past repair?
3. Any tips on trying to get it to link with my computer (aside from check
your cable and check your port settings because I have done that many many
times on many computers)
4. Are there some other commands I can run to test the unit?

I re-read your post a couple of times, and you don't seem to
have described any problems. Goes into self-test OK, responds
to commands OK. So what *is* the problem - "cannot establish
contact with the programmer"?, or is it something more subtle?

When you say it responds to commands, I'm guessing that
you are referring to local commands only and not remote
commands? What commands did you try? You know you
have to <select><F1><start><start>, right?

The problem was promlink could not communicate with my programmer.

Well, you solved my problem :-)
I was hitting <select><F1><start> and not the second start.

Alex,

Do you have a diagram of the serial cable between the D I/O 29B and the DB9 and my computer?

Thanks,

Randy
