Interesting the way they mention Doom 3 is the game now onwards. Jut incase anybody missed this before:

<A HREF="http://www.webdog.org/plans/313/" target="_new">http://www.webdog.org/plans/313/</A>
This is Robert Duffys blog, some intersting facts there about Doom 3 and id. Anyway I canme to know, the systems they used were Dells, Alienware and a Falcon NW while designing, testing and playing the game. Notice the Dell that comes first. I believe a lot of people curse them here or at other places.

BTW this is the gamespot link posted in the futuremark FAQ, just incase somebody missed it:
<A HREF="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/news_6103458.html" target="_new">http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/news_6103458.html</A>

Also just incase anybody (like me) is wondering what the heck is that IHV (not HIV) sh*it they mention:

<b>I</b>ndependent <b>h</b>ardware <b>v</b>endor, a hardware-manufacturing company that specializes in a specific type of hardware device and not a complete computer system. The IHV typically also provides the software drivers for its hardware devices.

Here DST(Depth Stencil Texture) is discussed.

Seen the 3dmark circus going on on the homepage of [H]ardOCP? That Futuremark VP is an idiot. Who do they think they are? Oh well, that said, Kyle showed he has some big hairy ones for the way he handled it. LOL

OMG, thats FUN. [h] asking future mark to fu*ck off ! LOL !

<b><i><font color=red>"You are barking up the wrong tree little doggy."</b></i></font color=red>, says Kyle to FutureMark

Kyle has always hated 3Dmk03, and he took that into FM as a whole with their backing down to nV last summer, but it's funny now it's a personal war with [H] overall. I laughed when it was released, the reactions there were typically hilarious.

It's funny how Kyle promoted 3Dmk01 to death, and then because 3Dmk03 doesn't act the same way he trashes si. But he never really thought about the fact that his using 3Dmk01 as a game predictor was equally misleading. And his statement about 3Dmk telling us nothing of D3, in effect Battle fo the Proxycon told us more about D3 than any previous game, especially Q3 which would be the only other OGL engine of note, that even he used up until recently. There WAS no game predictor, there is still no game predictor, so once again Kyle is trying to do something with this one benchmark that can't be done with any other one anyways. He's just among those who liked how well 3Dmk99/2000/01 correlated to games, now he doesn't know what to do with it. Doesn't make it any better or worse than anything else except for the ONLY point he really has right IMO. ATI, nV and all the rest shouldn't optimize for benchmarks their focus should be on optimizing for games people play. The only thing that is interesting is that either because or coincidentally good timing, when 3Dmk05 came out either ATI discovered or finally felt the need to fix their 256mb bug. Poeple benchmark for the fun of it and competetitively, and while I don't care about my bungholioo marks as much as the other information provided (prefer PS2.0 and VS info more [fill rates seem to neve change without OC'ing]), some people will have far more fun and benifit from 3DmkXX and it's optimizations than they ever would for optimizations for the 11 players of "LoadRunner 7 - Revenge of the Brick!".

Oh well it's worth a heck of alot of entertainment, and I don't think the guy from FM really knew what he was in for, but with the Infinium lab case you had to think he'd heard that [H]/Kyle doesn't back down easily.

However, if [H] keeps getting sued like this they may have to shut down due to legal fees alone. :frown:

they were recently involved in another legal setting, where they won against KB Networks. too many legal hassles arent good, but fun to watch, specially the pre dialog where the bosses of the two parties have some word exchanges.

Thanks, alot of background info there I didn't know. Still cracks me up. No doubt though the legal fees only benefit the attorneys.

The following ramblings reflect my op-onions, as such do not allow my words to influence your decisions or views as I drink alot!
To the participants, do not send me legal documents as they are too big for my mail box and will wrinkle my copies of Big'uns and Rolling Stone!

Yeah it makes me laugh a heck of alot despite my feelings towards the two (I think they are good companies/groups independant of each other).

I sent an e-mail to Kyle when he promoted his essay on his views of benchmarking (just before changing their style of benchmarking), and I mentioned that there will be no predictor and really you need to make sure you have the tools and let other people find the strengths and weaknesses and that whatever he adopted wouldn't be any mnore externally valid. Man did that ever get his hackles-up.

I'm still not sure if Kyle's biggest issue is with the zombified buyers/users simply going to BestBuy/FutureShop and looking at Lars' list of 3Dmk results and then making their 'decisions', or whether it's deeper than that. I know he's trying to do the best he can, and really succeeds far better at a bigger picture than most do, but really why is he so adamant and so focused on being critical? I'm not sure if he (and his minions) even tested 3Dmk05 before making snyde comments about it. I think he made his point with the first few original posts, beyond that let it go, just ignore it. Instead Kyle et al. find it worthy of adding any FM 'news' to their frontpage news list, but it is always accompanied by an evaluatory comment attached, which is invariably negative or dismissive.
So it shows that they realize it's important enough to their readers to include in their news, but they still can't avoid trying to make fun of it when given this chance.

It can be funy at times, but at other times you just wonder, why bother? I think the 'editorial' content of the 'news' is getting worse and worse with lamer and lamer jokes too, at least the quality of the actual reviews and other content on [H] has remained high or even improved in such a way as to offset this trend.

At the very least Kyle should get these 'editors/collectors' of his some 'satire for dummies' books so at to improve the quality of their bashing, justified or not.

Anywhoo, just keep giving me the nice graphs and screenies and I'll be happy, even if the shoddy writing intrudes on the reviews.

In any case, I'm just suprised that FM even bothered to contact them, and even more surprised that they would try to silence them. I doubt this will go anywhere, and I definitely support [H] in telling them where they can stick it, as there's no way that a court would side against free expression despite what might be read into the words. Really this seems like a PR blunder for FM, and just makes them look weak and silly. Sue [H] for their opinion of the benchmark, but do nothing when people monkey with your benchmark costing you ACTUAL credibility.

<b>*<font color=red>+</font color=red>*</b> The preceding was simply an editorial of my view of the situation, these view do not reflect those of THG, THGC, or the Actual GreatGrapApe cartoon, whose only comment when informed of the situation was "Oh!Grape Ape, Grape Ape!", which truely are wise words in these uncertain times.

What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of Lake Ontario...?
