What worked best for removing the glue?

Hey Derek:

I started out using the new Goo Gone 2 which worked but was taking
FOREVER to do so. In other words, too much effort. I then switched
after some reluctance to regular Goo Gone. I was very worried about
what it might do to plastic, so I proceeded gently, doing small
sections at a time and wiping off as I went. This worked very well for
the left side. Then, when I went to the right side, I got a little
cocky and wiped down the whole side where the glue was and let it soak
in. Then used a plastic scraper to take the top of the glue off, and
then a rag and goo gone to remove the rest.

Problem is, that I think the longer it soaks in, a haze starts to form
on the plastic. Now, this isn't a huge deal since you are covering it
up with a replacement graphic, but extreme care should be taken to make
sure you don't overshoot the sticker area! I did in a small spot, and
ended up using novus 3 and "back to black" (sold in auto stores) to
take my small mistake away.

If I were to do it again, I would work in smaller areas with the
scraper so as not to let the goo gone sit in any one area too long.

Props to Phoenix Arcade by the way. My back sticker on the shroud
(original) was is almost mint shape, so I decided to leave it and only
replace the sides. The reproductions match perfectly with the
original. I thought I was going to have to remove all three but
because of the quality of the repro graphics, I decided to leave a
piece of the original in place.

And to those of you doing the math, wondering why I had two pieces to
sell when I replaced both the left and right... I had no sooner
replaced the left and right graphics when my wife accidentially knocked
the shroud onto the floor, putting a slice in the right side. Of all
the luck... So I had to order a new set to replace it! I almost cried
when she told me "uh, honey... you are going to be mad at me.... I just
knocked over your tron thinggy."

I used laquer thinner on the glue. Tried Goo Gone first and like Derek
it just was taking too long 'cause the glue is THICK. Same warning
applies with laquer thinner though around the clear section. I used a
paper towel soaked with the thinner to dab it on around the clear
section. It did get on it but didn't craze it, less benzine than Goof
Off I suppose.

And I still plan on doing a pictorial for Darin. Just a whole lotta
drama around here lately ;)
