Hello there,

Just a quick benchmarking question for you. I have a new PC (p4 3.2, radeon 9800 (128 meg) and 1 gig RAM - all running at stock specs ).

The benchmark numbers generally seem good:

3d mark 2001 (1024x768) - between 17,500 and 17,850
3d mark 2003 (1024x768) is 5950 (676 CPU)
Commanche (1024x768) around 60 fps
Aquamark 43, 785
PC Mark 2002 = cpu-7890 mem-8890 hdd-1178
Far cry (PCGH_VGA demo) 1024x768 (everything v.high): average fps = 68

The one thing that concerned me a bit were my UT2003 benchmarks. At 1024x768 with everything at maximum I get around 222 as the flyby score and 80-82 for the botmatches. I have seen fly by scores up in the 240s with my specs. Do my other figures look all right and how do my UT2003 seem?

In general Ut2003 runs extremely smoothly - but the fps does drop into the 30s when things are very busy on DM-PLUNGE - is this to be expected?

I try not to get to hung up on benchmark figures - but sometimes I can't help myself :-(

Thanks in advance guys.

Many aspects cause the FPS to be different, different motherboards, different makers, different BIOS settings, etc. Usually benches on AMD systems are higher than Pentiums, but 222 is fine. As long as the game runs smoothly and you have no problems, I wouldn't worry about it. I get 46k in Aquamark 3, 68fps in the CS:Source Video Stress Test but that's because I'm running the new Omega drivers. You could try those on and see a performance gain, they're based off the 8.07 betas.

Cheers mate - I'd never heard of any omega drivers - but I will check that out.

Just to wrap this up - would everyone agree that my benchmarks are ok as they stand?

Thanks folks...

omega drivers wont give u a "jump" in performance over ATI drivers. They are just tweaked for us to tweak more, get maybe better IQ, and few FPS boost (or fall depending on what setting u choose)

You seem to be getting good FPS. But those are old games. Try 3dmark 05, Doom3 and HL2 tests. Post those.

Aye 3dmark05 (aka "The Slideshow") and Doom3 are big tests. But those are good benchmarks you got there from the looks of things. Tweaking your BIOS may help too.

Many thanks for the feedback,

If my benchmarks are good as they stand I am not going to spoil it all by trying out 3d mark 05.

I think I'll get back to playing the games instead of worrying about how fast they run :)

All the best.
