Some people like it, im not a fan. Im not sure if it has something to
do with how the ship feels or the gravity but it doesn't feel fast
enough like asteroids deluxe. Im also a speed freak too, it has to be
fast. Its one of those games thats much more enjoyable as a 2 player
game. (in which i never seem to get to play )
Graphics are a 8 out of 10
single player is 5 out of 10
dual player(estimated) 8 out of 10
Overall reliability (estimated) 8 out of 10
You could do much worse with another machine. There is always a zvg too

Better that asteroids or AD and much more challenging.
color vector graphics, awesome rock shapes. the a two player game to boot.
you can play it four different ways.
and the side art is awesome as well.
So you ready to buy mine now! ;Þ

I never really liked the game at all. Something like an asteroids upgrade
but I always liked (and still do) asteroids better than space duel. The
shapes were always annoying to me for some reason. I own one though

Not much of a fan here. Basically a slow playing color Asteroids. The
slower speed and odd shaped "rocks" just don't do it for me. The 2 player
non-linked is decent. The 2 player linked is worthless. And if you're
going to play single player, Asteroids is way better.
If you have a chance to get it cheap, get it for the monitor. One of those
odd cases where the parts are worth noticeably more than the whole working
game. The game is good for MAME or ZVG/MAME too, as the CP has lots of
buttons.
That all said, want to buy mine? (Such a salesman I am!).

Personally i'm not a big fan of it.. although I do like just having it in
the gameroom because of the color and deep bass sound, but beyond that it
gets boring quick.. doesn't have quite the classic feel of asteroids or
deluxe. But at any rate, try it for yourself..form your own opinion.

Jon and Brian hit the nail for me (weirdo shapes but the exceptional
bass....Gravitar and Space Duel have great bass). BUT, unlike Jon and
Brian, I actually sold mine 2 years ago and regret it (I had to for money
issues at the time). Looking back, I liked it alot more than I gave it
credit for....I know this is true because I want it back someday.

On a different note, I just picked up a space duel cocktail but it
didn't have the boards, so if anyone has a spare set they are not using
let me know.

I've always liked it better than Asteroids / Dlx - the colors man,
check out the colors. I think the shapes are better as well, not to
mention the look of a color vector. Like most people mention, dual
player is great. It's the least played of my machines, but I wouldn't
give it up.

I've always enjoyed Space Duel. I like the color screen, bass sound,
and artwork. It is a very slow game, but is fun because it involves
planning in advance to get out of the way or avoid getting hit. It's a
true classic and would love to get one again. (Dummy me, I sold one a
few years back and regret it).

Love mine! Wouldn't trade it for an Asteroids or an AD either. A
friend has an Asteroids and the play is much slower and boring on the
Asteroids than the SD.(At least later on)
The biggest issue people have with it is after about the 4th wave it's
too hard.(At least in my game room) Even if you're really good at it,
it can't be played forever like Asteroids. By the 6th level the
saucers are firing directly at you with no misses. It's hard to kill
them off especially with those and the dang mines heading for you which
take multiple shots.
If you break 70K on SD, you're a heck of a player that's for sure!
Heck the high score at TG is like 600K, and that was someone that must
have been awesome at the game.(They have people with 27K on there?)
Plus with the duel ship there's a whole other aspect of control. It's
much more difficult to pilot the "fused" ships as only one has
thrusters in the single player game. Then in 2 player mode you have to
really work together to get anywhere.
Definately a keeper!

I really enjoy mine. I remember playing it at Showbiz - they had a bunch
of them there, too. Of course, it's much better with 2 players. I
remember it as one of the few games where you could play 2 players on
the screen at the same time. It has greater strategy and depth than
Asteroids, certainly. Of all my games, Space Duel and Joust get the most
attention, because of the 2-player-at-once aspect.

I like my cocktail as it is a fun game to play sitting down especially with
2 players or 1 player with linked ships. I also have had an Asteroids and
still have an Asteroids Deluxe. All 3 are fun in different ways. SDuel is
much easier to start with but has some neat higher levels.

A few years back I purchased both an Asteroids Deluxe and a Space Duel
and set them up as the only games in my apartment. I had always loved
Space Duel when I was a kid, and only ended up picking up the Asteroids
Deluxe because it was a good deal. Two player space Duel is a lot of
fun, but I found that I rarely had anyone around to play the game with,
so I ended up selling it. It was cool to look at, but I guess I just
got bored with it. I still have the Asteroids Deluxe, which is more
fun solo (IMHO) and has a cooler retro look--there is something about
the intensity of those black and white vector monitors.. Plus, even
though the color vector monitor in the SD was working fine, I kept
feeling like it was a ticking time bomb destined to break down at some
point..
When I was selling the machine I had more offers on the monitor than I
did on the whole machine, but finally managed to find a buyer who was a
Space Duel nut. Hopefully it's still intact!

P.S. the extra speakers in the space duel really do kick ass! Also,
the game is a great platform for a vector multigame, or a black widow
conversion kit if you happen to find one.

I like Space Duel. Love the color vector, love the deep bass sound. My
only problem with it is that it seems that during gameplay it's missing
something..... and that something (for me) is the infamous background sound
of Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe... "da-da, da-da, da-da". Ok... I cant
figure out how to spell out that "sound", so use your imagination.
Space Duel would totally ROCK if it had that background sound in it. So
without it, I put it at #2 of the 3 games in the series... IMO, of course.
1- Asteroids Deluxe
2- Space Duel
3- Asteroids

It should have some sort of 80 or even flash gordon type background
music, something like solar jetman. It would of also of been nice to
switch it to have the same "semi-silvered" mirror setup too. ahh well,
it still a good 2 player game.
