For quite a while I've been using a p3 733 as a server running on linux to share the net and so forth, and today I used the same outlet to plug in a iron and poof, no more server. Stupid cheap surge protector, but anyways back to the subject, I decided to just purchase a router instead of buying a cheap little system to act as a server. What type of router do you (yes, you the person who's reading this) suggest?

I've been using the SMC Barricade 4-Port 10/100Mbps Broadband Router for the last 6-months without any problems.

i like my linksys router. frequent firmware upgrades.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.

The Linksys is a good choice, but if you want something cheaper, SMCs are good.

With the lynksys or SMCs, can i set it to where a certain computer can have all ports available? i like going on irc and downloading stuff and also i use pc anywhere and have a personal ftp set up on a certain PC so i can access from other places. thanks..

yes, you can set one computer outside the firewall completely, or you can forward specific ports to a single computer.

I got the 4 port Linksys, Never had a problem, Very Very easy to install....umm it is a Good Product i would recommed it!
